I have done it again and left the cap off when topping up and the bugger has gone so need a new one. I have a brand new one which I got with the pre cat but it don't fit the 500 as the thread is different. The 500 has an extension neck on the rocker cover but can't see why this makes a difference. I have had to put my Leven one on the 500 but need a new orange one. Yes I could buy another Leven one (assuming you can still get them) but as its not the first time i've forgot to replace it recently so want to cut my losses.
Are there 2 thread types?
The orange spare I have has a wider thread spacing than the rocker cover.
Any help greatfully received.

The extension has same threads on both ends IME. The caps I have fit all 8 rocker covers I have (with & without extensions, std & early TVR alloy [the nice ones])

Cheers Dave,
The Leven one on the pre cat is an embossed rocker cover and it fits. I didn't buy the spare orange one but is is brand new in a bag so just wandered if its just not off a V8?
Andrea's old one was a bit battered, especially when I last left it off about 2 months ago and it went bounding across a dual carraigeway.

Funnily enough,, ours did that into a verge in France a couple of years ago. Luckily I found it quite quickly.

Hi Flip Flop, there are indeed two types of orange cap, one for V8, one for Land Rovers, apart from the thread form they look the same.
Rimmers were about the cheapest for a new V8 cap when I looked last year. Note they dont come with the O ring.

£3.99 from 'The Land Rover Orphanage' via Ebay or they take cards on the phone - 01249 444450. Make sure you get one for the V8 engine. Bought one a few months ago and cheaper than any TVR parts supplier.

The original oil cap had started to crack, so I bought a new orange V8 engine oil filler cap for £4.00 from a Landrover specialist on ebay...fits perfectly on my Griff 500 and came with an "O" ring seal. Hope this also helps...
