Just seen a piece on local news about how hitting a golf ball can cause a sound of 106db, and as a result clubs may be asked to put health and safety measures in place so people cannot sue them for damage to hearing....

FFS, I know there is a recession on, but how many ex bankers will Gordo get employed policing this nonsense!

106dB?? Are they hitting the balls with explosive-tipped clubs?

Thats nothing. When I scuff the ground just infront of the ball, it produces a sound about double that of hitting the ball correctly, followed by some loud swearing. The club also reverberates violently causing me to have that vibration tool disorder (white finger?) and casues my back muscles to spasm....

Will be sueing them shortly

I think my swearing is more of a problem on the Golf course & obviously erronious shots going every which way but straight more of a health hazard.

Feck me, the sound of a shot?

The only time I'm ever likely to receive hearing damage while playing golf is in the event of me shanking the ball at an adjacent tree and it rebounding into the side of my head.

And the last time that happened I just ducked.

Isn't this just titanium (IIRC) clubs though?

There was a piece on Radio 2 about this a couple of weeks ago.

So...Lets get this right. They are more concerned about the sound of the club hitting the ball and NOT the case of a small projectile being launched at high speed across a green with (usually) other people wandering about, which on the face of it sounds far more dangerous?

What a crazy world we live in.

It usually takes me three attempts to hit the ball hard enough to reach 20db.
But I will still be on the course friday as nothing better to do on a three day week

I discovered a new way to reduce total ear damage on a hole last week.

Basically reduce the number of shots required to a minimum.

Although that does then tend to damage your liver instead... smile
