could anyone suggest where a single bloke should go on holiday within europe for 3-10 days?

fancy a break but none of my friends can afford one so soon after xmas. i want at least a couple of nights away but could stretch to 7-10days if it sounds interesting enough.

main problem is that my euro city breaks tend to be half about the city/culture and half about the nightlife opportunities. going somewhere on my tod would largely rule out having a decent night out, so need somewhere appealing enough for it to be more about the sightseeing.

anyone got any ideas? i fancy russia or the baltics but am easily swayed.

cheers.

I'd do a few places for a couple of days each. Start off with Dublin, then go east and work your way back again

Do an activity holiday rather than focusing on a destination.

good suggestions.....IF i owned a worthy enough car. i doubt mine would get up the stelvio!

really just wanted to hear from people who;d spent a few days away on their own and surprised hopw much they enjoyed it. the main thing putting me off at the minute is the evenings - being that guy alone in a restaurant/bar trying to look as though he's enjoying himself!

Northern Italy. Lot of motoring heritage, Monza, close to Switzerland/the Alps. Lake Como/Maggire are great (perhaps not at this time of the year) Zeebrugge-Hull ferry then driving down takes in Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. Can be all done in a day, but you'd probably want to stop off at the 'Ring or somewhere else overnight.

Or cheap flights into Milan if you book in advance. Oh, and say hello if you do end up over here.

Totally agree with your fear of eating out on your own, however this is a lot more common in Europe than it is in the UK, especially in cities so I really wouldn't worry about it too much. I do it all the time (on business) and you will very quickly get over it.

I did a holiday to Italy on my own a few years ago, was in the same position as you in that none of my friends wanted to go away and I didn't want to take the girl I was with at the time. I flew to Milan, went over to Turin for a few days, then to Monza for Euro Touring Car finals then down to Florence for a few days.

Italian cities are great for sight seeing, depends really on what you want for nightlife though but I had no problem chatting to other random people. Was also bloody nice to be on my own for a bit and not have to pander to anyone else's demands/plans biggrin

Would do it again in a shot (if I did not have a lovely girlfriend with whom i naturally want to spend all my time and may end up reading this at some point. Love you darling)
