Excellent news. The only one on the grid I presume?

Do you expect to be winning races first year?

Unfortunately my rather anti-social behavioral trait of being uncompromisingly competitive precludes me from entering motorsport events without the intention to win every one! So, yes, I expect to be winning races next year *

  • I also expect man, many late nights in the workshop and a few broken parts...

Can't wait to see this on circuit. I've only ever driven a 225 version 'round a kart track but even that was a bit of a giggle. Well done Randy, All the best for the 09 season. Can't wait!!! See you there.

very interesting that he is using SBD to do the engine work for him. I worked with Steve many years ago. He did a very hot 2lt engine for my 7 and I did some setup work for him. The engine he did me was great, 254hp in a 7 certainly made for rapid progress.

Lots of proper hard work there!
At the risk of stating the obvious, make sure all steel to al contact is properly insulated to prevent corrosion which happens surprisingly quickly otherwise.

surely you want to glue and bolt that roll cage in to get as much stiffness into the chassis as possible. Its a lot of weight to be carrying around high up not to get maximum advantage from fitting it. There must be a market for carbon roll cages, are they legal?

And he is going to have to fit some reversing sensors otherwise that thing is going to be a nightmare to park in Tesco car park...

Of course. Although on the newer car's there aren't many places where Duralac or similar is needed. Subframe has plates to seperate it from the chassis, as does the roll bar. The uprights are steel, this is where the S1's usually suffer, the steel balljoint plinths against the bare aluminium uprights.

The roll bar is VERY solidly bolted as per MSA regulations. Carbon is possible but would require a HUGE amount of R&D... really not worth it.
