Sea France Problems

The local TV news on BBC south east has been reporting that Sea France ferries are in financial problems and losing €20 million ayear.
A proposed rescue deal has collapsed and Sea France now have a month to sort it out.
If you have a crossing with them for the race with them BE CAREFUL.

this could ruin my first le mans trip! 
What I don't understand is how, these being per mile the dearest ferries in the world, they are losing money. Seafrance never have been much cheaper than P&O on the Calais/Dover run. On the other hand, Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth/Caen are robbers compared to LD lines to Le Havre but there are times when even they make a thumping great loss like last January when there were 30 people in total on the overnight ship.

We used Sea France in early Jan when we went skiing. Now, granted that's probably not the busiest time of year for skiing trips and we were on their shiny new big ship, but while it really didn't seem very busy on board there were still plenty of cars being loaded - the car deck was maybe 70% full each way.However, the deal we got was something daft like £78 return (after a discount voucher I think) for 2 cars !! Now, that doesn't strike me as being expensive, particularly not compared to the tunnel (which I still prefer for convenience, if not price).

Will wait and see what happens when we reach the 16th Feb deadline and possibly make another claim on the CC company!Seafrance are going to cut 300 jobs and take the 2 old ships off the service which leaves the 3 new ships doing the 15 daily crossings, the 300 jobs are on the French side and many will be redployed to SNCF on the railways.......also they are expecting some French government cash......that is the word from the inside.....
