One of the better looking cars, more pictures will come out but its just been launched. Looks like it has the same lower fins under the nose cone similar to the Renault, but not as part of the wing mounts.

I suppose it doesn't quite look as bad as their interim test cars did.

I thought we would all hate every new F1 car, but except for the Ferrari & Renault, most of the others seem OK. I do like how smooth the bodywork is now all the winglet aero things have been scrapped.

Yeah, agree. That's not too bad. Most of the cars look good this year - I much prefer the drooping noses to the flat ones.

Multi element front wing like the McLaren, and after the hoohaa over the Ferrari exhausts the pipes on this do seem to come out from the bodywork a little. No barge boards or sidepod endplates/air guides that I can see.

2008 and 2009 cars together.


The 2008 looks so intricate and fussy, 2009 car a lot cleaner looking (and better looking, to me).

I sort of agree but still have a big dislike for the silly little rear wings this year. Oh well, I'm happy, I just booked my accommodation for Melbourne!

Good to see the 2 cars side by side & yes this year's car are less fussy & thus an improvement. Nonetheless the wings look out of proportion on all the cars but I suppose if they looked better the cars would be indistinguishable from F3 cars unless you got very close to them. That said, I'm not sure that looking like an F3 car is such a bad idea especially if silly looking wings are the alternative.

As for the exhaust solution - I suspect they'll either have to be changed to fit the regs as all bar Ferrari have interpreted them up to now or the other teams will go the same way, assuming there's an advantage in so-doing.

Seems quite lacking in sponsorship too. I know Credit Suisse didnt renew but Intel seem to have gone too.

On the car itself, looks too much like their interim car to me. Dont like these fat noses.

II would imagine they look less cluttered with advertising because there's probably less sq/ft of advertising space on the car this year, at least in areas where the TV cameras and on board cameras can pick them up. Single sections of bodywork without advertising hoardings, sorry aero devices on top of them angled towards the cameras

I've actually decided I like all the 09 cars. Okay, i'm not keen on the livery on the Renault, but otherwise they're all prettier than the cluttered 08 cars.

My only gripe is that rear wing, it's just out of proportion, but as they all have them, it's a minor detraction.

Majority of the car is fine, great in fact - even the rear wing's not a problem. But I'm not keen on the front wing; looking at the side-side shot I much prefer the 08 front wing. Only my opinion of course.

I was losing a bit of interset in F1 but looking at all the cars and how great they all look, I can't wait to see how they perform.

this is how i feel about the new cars compared to old ones-
i'd walk round the new car a couple of times, take in the details, walk again, get bored as there isn't much to look at.

no, the BMW was no way close to being the best car last year, looks or performance, but i'd still be more happy to see the old compared to new.

I think my judgement will be reserved until the first race. If there is not obvious difference to the racing, such as the ability to follow another car without losing grip and some overtaking then I won't be convinced the changes have done anything. Melbourne will be a good test, lots of medium speed corners around the circuit with one onto the main straight, if there's no overtaking into T1 then it's failed.
