My E36 323 needs at least 2 new tyres and as they are a mix and match, 2 Goodyears, 1 Conti and 1 Bridgestone, I want to change all four.

Looking for a good replacement for general road driving that won't break the bank.

Any advice gratefully received so cheers.

if your on 15 or 16 inch wheels pirreli p6000s would be my choice for quality & price but i have a good experiance of avon tyres recently proving long lasting quiet and just as good in the wet or dry as the michelins fitted as standard whilst being about £50 cheaper per tyre.

Yep! the car is on it's original 15 ins wheels. So is it the Avons that are cheaper or the Michelins and how much would I expect to pay for the Pirellis.

sorry avons were cheaper, pirrelis would expect to pay around the £70 mark each. If you try somewhere like kwikfit they generaly do good offers for 4 tyres like 25% off, you could probably get a good price on the internet but remember you still have to pay somebody to fit & balance them which you may get in the price if you buy from a one stop chain.

That is very helpful thanks. My local fitter wanted £87 per tyre P6000 so that is quite a saving. Cheers.

I have just called my local Kwik-Fit and they are doing 30% off if you order 4 tyres but the total cost is £307 with the discount. Not bad but not as good as your price.

Maybe it's a London mark up.

I have just seen your sizes as mine is 205/60 not 65. maybe that's the difference.

yikes Please don't fit Pirelli P6000s. Don't you know these are more commonly known as ditchfinders.

I did a search on the forum last night and that seems to be the common thought about the P6000s. There is a newer one called the P7 and the GY Eagle F1s seemed to be highly thought of but I can't find any. Are they an older tyre?

Toyo seemed to be liked but is there a certain model number to go for?

Also there appear to be a lot of votes for the Falken 452s for the E46 but again they do not appear to be available for my E36.

I have the 15" wheels on our 328 coupe. I went for the Marshalls at £43 a tyre at a local tyre spot. No problems at all especially at that price.

Thanks for that and boy there are a lot of makes about considering I only considered Pirelli, Good Year, Bridgestone and Contis.

So what do the rest of you lot think of Marshalls.

It seems that even if I go with a better tyre I will be able to get 4 for just a bit more than my Land Rover Dealer price for one tyre for my Disco 3. Of course I never get them from him.

Marshalls are ok but not so good in the wet as Kumhos

The general opinion seems to be that the Falken 452s are the best all rounder but they do not do them in 15s but there is a Falken ZE912 in 15 but it is not the same tyre.

Are Kumhos the same in wet performance?

I have to say that the weird combi of 3 different makes have been exceptional in the wet during spirited driving and at an average of £80 a tyre, I am quite happy to pay to be safe so people I want to know what would you shod your 175 bhp E36 with, for safety and fun.

P6000 are no where near as bad as people make out. The first version of them (about 10 years ago) were pretty average but the tyre has changed. They're not a performance tyre (avon zz3/ eagle F1/ pzero etc), but more than adequate for the average user. Premium car manufacturers dont' fit cr#p original equipment tyres.....

I've had good results with P7s on our 323 and Goodyear eagle (both in 15"). Currently running Contisports on it which run a bit quieter than the goodyears but still have decent grip in the wet and dry.

We use the Marshalls on our Alpina and our son uses the Kumhos on his 328i. Have no experience of the Falkens but as our rears are due for a change, might try em......although finding any 263x35/17" is a pain these days
