Rail travel.......cheeky blighters

I have to go to London on a Friday, stop overnight for an early morning Saturday thing and then come back Saturday evening. National Express East Coast kindly offer to sell me a first class return ticket for some astronomical sum (about £205), with no reduction for the fact that the 100 minute journey will take twice as long due to engineering works.
Due to the works the return jouney will involve 2 changes and part of the journey on a coach from Hatfield to Huntingdon so my lovely first class ticket will count for nothing for most of the trip.
And they wonder why I prefer to drive and clog up the city.

I calculated that cheaper to leave my V8 idling outside their train station, rent ANOTHER car, drive that to where I need to go and back, come back, drop off the rental, catch a cab back to my still idling car, fill up the tank and drive home than it costs to pay those nests of vipers that run the 'rail' system.Due to the works the return jouney will involve 2 changes and part of the journey on a coach from Hatfield to Huntingdon so my lovely first class ticket will count for nothing for most of the trip.

Thieves.
