Tet Rouge! whats it like?

Ok, I know some people who are going down to Le mans this year and they have elected to stay at tet rouge! I as yet, have not made my mind up where to stay? Having been to le mans several times, I do know that I no longer wish to stay down at Beausejour, they keep playing about with the entrance to the place and getting in and out of it is a bloody nightmare.
This is my dilemma
Im thinking of taking the Viper down to Lemans this year, so im unsure how safe the car would be parked up in the campsite all day
Also its rather low so ground clearence could be an issue! Is tet rouge a free for all, pitch up anywhere you can find or is it policed somehow? Also worried about the Chav Factor?

Yep i am staying there again this year. Its by far one of the best sites IMO. There is security at the camp site gates and its right next to the track its self. Only valid ticket holders can get in and out. Once in the site when you leave you will be given a ticket so you can return, no ticket then no return. The ground does not get all sihty like some of the other sites after a bit of rain. I park my Ferrari there without problems. Very cool place although like other sites there are greedy people who get there very early in the week and take up more than there allocated room. But i recommend this site. When you going down i will look out for you if you choose to use it.
Did Tetre Rouge a couple of times in the past. Yes there is security and the ticket thing does stop a lot of people nosing around. There were chalked out bays but some people took more than their fair share as usual. The other major plus for me was how easy it is to get to the supermarket. We normally do 4 days, so regular visits for ice & meat is essential!
Unfortunately for me, the last time I camped there, the funfair was very close. This might sound odd, but the noise of cars at the race is part of the excitement and what you expect.What you don't expect is a really really annoying 'freefall' machine with an 8ft propellor running for 3 days nearby and some t**t on a microphone shouting about it! I imagine the other end of the site would have been well away from it but a long walk to the track.

The funfair was moved many years ago, and TR is now probably the most civilised open campsite, very hard to get tickets but for easy access to everything so it is the choice of many regulars. Security is very tight and each year they try to police the space allocation but no always very succesful. Always plenty of exotic and old cars in the campsite and with difficulty you can get cars out during the race to visit Mulsanne and arnarge.
Yes it does over look the track in some parts. But just by walking out of the camp site you are literally on the Tetra Rouge corner with clear views of the track. Your litterly 40 meters away from the track fence.
Its about the best place to be for the track view from a campsite IMO.

If you need directions then ignore all the temporary signs for the circuit/camping and find the Carrefore (plenty of signs for that) once you see the Carrefore then use the main road that eventually becomes the mulsanne straight to head for the circuit, you know you are on it as the tramway runs down the middle of it. You get to a roundabout and then go straight over under the bridge (you are at tertre rouge corner)the enterance to the campsite is on your right directly after the bridge.
We go to TR each year.
The "Flying Machiiiiine!" was years ago, now that the funfair is down by Bleu Nord there's just car noise (plus fireworks, helicopters, stereos and generators).
It is a tremendously civilised and friendly campsite, we go there every year and are by no means the noisest people on site, the crazy Dutch are always a giggle and there is always someone to natter with.
There's no room for burnouts or any of that sillyness, the loos are generally very good, although there were some water outages last year, also it's one of the few sites with free power, generally located by the loos, you need to take at least two extension leads with a way of making them waterproof, and a French double adapter.
Access to the track is superb, entrance is here just behind the white van under the trees, access to the site is excellent with 24hr manned gates leading straight onto the D338, tram stop is just outside the gate, trams were ok last year but suffered some teething troubles, hopefully they'll be better this year.
One thing to note is that the track from the gate to the campsite fills up with bodies close to race time, you have to crawl through and they can't hear your car over the noise which can be difficult, also the Gendarmes close the road a couple of hours prior to race time and we had to leave a couple of cars on the verge outside last year.
As far as spaces go, they are marked out and sometimes they tell you where to go and enforce the rules, sometimes they don't, there are rumours of numbered pitches this year.
We get there Thursday am and have had great pitches and not so great pitches but we've always had room for our huge tent and four cars, the trick is to talk to your neighbours and not take the pi55, if everyone plays the game it works.
If you end up in TR, stop by for a beer.

Really looking forward to LM this year and stopping in TR for the first time. BSJ was a good opened, HA is ok and KN has been excellent. The only thing with KN was the distance to the Stella Bar and the grandstands, it was a good 20 minute wander.
I'm hoping it will be marked and numbered pitches as we arrive Thursday lunchtime and need to be pitched and beered in time for evening practice.

I stayed there in the summer for the Classic and it was great. Fantastic position. You only need to go out of the entrance and you get a great view of the Porsche curves to the right and to the left the approach to the Mulsanne.
There was security on the gate all weekend and the showers were pretty good as well.
