GM Performance Parts are about to unleash the LSX454 7.4L crate engine - 638hp, 813NM torque off the shelf using the LSX bowtie block, new 6 bolt heads and fully forged rotating assembly. To top it all off looks like the Yanks are putting into their VXR8 equivalent - G8 GXP with lots of other tweaks. Least according to this months issue of Street Commodores that just arrived through my door. So who's gonna be first to fit one of them into their car then.....and then turbo/supercharge it

It has a carb intake, not composite. Ive been trying to find out if the heads have the same intake layout to the LS7 intake, but in at least the lsx-dr head case they intake ports are different, so you have to use the high rise carb intake. Also dont forget its iron so weights I think 50kg more than the alloy one. I also think cost is around $14k USD

But you are correct it will be mental base for major power. See the other post from TTSL1 with a link to a 900bhp NA setup based on that block you mention

Anybody know what the compression is as that will limit further potential.

11.0:1 compression. I've seen somewhere they reckon block and heads are capable of taking up to 45psi of boost and talk of modding it to 501 cu in fairly easily as well!!!

That's a lot of boost, the static compression would be massive at that psi. It would cause all sorts of problems unless they somehow get big bowls in the pistons without hitting the top of the rods. Or they used a cam which doesn't really let all that much air into the engine in order to rev. I'll check out the link, looks interesting.

ETA.

The specs are quite normal. I'd like to see some head info, even the rods are 'ordinary'. No mention of exotic valves or valvetrain either. This could just be a budget stroker in a heavy casing.

Yeah heads are not yet finalised I dont think. They arnt the lsx-dr ones anyway, though those bolt on.
I "think" they are pretty much just raw cast LS7 based with a 6 bolt arrangement, but thats just from rumours I have seen.

Robin L from GMPP is the guy to ask, I think he doesnt know yet himself.

^ Does look good doesn't it. Externally the heads look like lsx/7. What are the 2 holes underneath the spark plugs for? Are they holes or something else? Going to be a tall engine with the carb. Has injector bosses to so could go efi or even lpg whilst keeping the carb.

Won't it be funny if in a few years time the alloy blocks are discontinued and GM sell us iron blocks. The lsx will have gone full circle and back to sbc but with a better spec.

I dont think thats holes under the plugs, thats the clip end of the plug itself which is installed. The other is the plug hole its screwed into. Id like to see one with the std LS7 intake on it... If it fits the heads..

can buy the LSX454 bottom end ready to take any GenIII or GenIV heads - so they claim, list price a little over 5k US dollars, so set of LS7 heads and intake and you're ready to rock and roll

^ Does anybody know if the deck heights have remained the same? If they've changed then an lsx intak won't touch both heads which would be an irritation to say the least.

Mate I told you to install an LS series before, you told me you wanted the old skool firing order and sound wink

But I can suggest that changing your mind is indeed a good idea.

The carbs not normally there is it? I guess there would be no room on that engine for a maggie if anyone were to want to take that route? Would it have to be Harrop?
