No, this is not a reason to hate Americans but this link is a very good reason to have a good chuckle at their expense. I haven't laughed so much in ages.

I got a call from the NRA yesterday asking for money. Used the whole "Obama is President and he wants your guns."
Had a nice little discussion where I went point by point why the Gun Lobby had won, how their isn't a anti-gun movement, and how we live in a democracy and even the President can't change the constitution on a whim. This idea that because someone is a democrat that means they are anti-gun is childish.
A government class is required in high school. I really wish people would pay attention at the "power of government section."
Had a nice little discussion where I went point by point why the Gun Lobby had won, how their isn't a anti-gun movement, and how we live in a democracy and even the President can't change the constitution on a whim. Being a member of that forum for nine years with approximately 28,000 post, let me just say that that section of the forum was set up a few years ago for the right wing nuts so that they wouldn't bother the rest of us with their nonsense. Less than 1% of the members of that forum are regular contributors to that section.

It'd definately be a lot to us as the only weapons you've ever been able to own, iirc, are semi-auto and indeed most people over here who are allowed full auto weapons (Army springs to mind) will train to mostly use semi-auto as well.
Not sure what it's like over the pond with our colonial brethren though.
