Morning Chaps ....find myself in the nice position of having about 7k to blow on something fun ....and of late am having a bit of a 'Jaguar moment' ...having never owned one.
So I have narrowed down my wish list to either a 03/53 STR or a 2001 XK8 ...was really looking to see if anyone has experience of both ....and opinions on each?

thanks in advance

I have an XKR a '99 with many mod's.

Really pleased with it, still have not lost the 'Grin' factor

Could I suggest you contact and join the XK8/R Club www.xkec.co.uk
They have a very good Members Forum, ask the questions and you will get plenty of reply's.

If you want to have 'fun' in the car then a STR is the only way to go. An XK8 just wouldn't do it.....

I debated an XK when I was swapping 8 months ago but couldn't get comfortable in the seats. I'm 5 8 or so but short in the leg & the seat sat on my shoulder blades. So ended up with another S-Type.

i own an str and have previously owned an xjr. never owned an xk, but have been driven in one. loved the xjr, love the str too (although it's not quite an occasion to drive as the xjr was).

xk8 and str are quite different cars, despite both being jags.

for starters, xk8 300bhp (iirc), str 400bhp.

str family car, xk8 coupe/gt.

which one do you prefer the looks of? str blends in more, is a bit more of a q-car (if a jag can be considered that), an xk8 is more exclusive-looking. are you "bhp-mad"? do you need the extra practicality and space of the str? don't forget that for the same money you'll get a newer str (like your own research seems to suggest).

answers to the above may help you decide. good luck with whatever you end up getting! smile

Snaz for what its worth have a look at the STR on www.eclecticcars.co.uk more than your budget but maybe worth a look.

thanks for all the replys chaps.....and Vladman ...i think you may have unwittingly swung me to the XK ....we have the family 4 door ....and I am not a speed freak as such, so the posy 2 door GT would suit me down to the ground ......although I may push my budget and go XKR wink

If you can go for it, OK you may now want the extra power all the time, but it's there when you do.

Thats a different ball game totally. If it's between a STR or an XKR, XKR every time. While you're at it get one with the roof chopped off. thumbup
