Corvette Competition Sport Package

Aggressive kit for Vette gives racing look

In the midst of their financial nightmares, GM have still found time to tweak the Corvette.

This set of modifications is being called the 'Competition Sport Package', and is specifically designed for the Corvette 1LT and Z06, and it certainly looks the part.

The package includes various Corvette Racing 'Jake' skull and CSR decals, dramatic exterior stripes in what GM lovingly calls 'Competition Gray', as well as different alloys and sleek new headlamps. On the inside the package adds more decals, racing pedals, and a new ebony colour scheme with something called 'titanium embroidery', which we can't quite imagine until we see it.

GM says that the kit is aimed at drivers who want to attend track days and events in their 'Vettes, but alone it does seem to be purely aesthetic. The only modification under the Corvette's skin seems to be a new engine cover.

The package is probably intended to be combined with the pre-existing Z51 performance kit, which brings stiffer springs and dampers, improved cooling and exhaust, closer gear ratios and uprated brakes and rubber.

As yet there are no prices released for the Competition Sport Package or any of its elements. But when the standard ZR1 already carries a hefty £109k price tag, GM will have to be careful not to price the flagship 'Vette out of the market.

Corvettes are available in the UK for less than Cayman S.
The strong Euro is making sales into Europe into a daily event as is the higher list price in Europe.
This makes the Corvette into the affordable credit crunch sports car with an assured market at strong residual values once you've had your fun.
I just thought I'd get that in before the usual tirade of mis informed twoddle about American cars

£109k? Is that correct as that sounds an awful lot for a Corvette. I mean that's only a couple of K less than a DB9 and whilst I don't want to get into all the usual arguments about which is a better car, the PERCEIVED value, in the UK at least, would seem to be substantially in favour of the Aston.

It just seems a lot :s

Ignore me, I've just done some research on the ZR-1 and clearly it's not really in the same league as the normal one...

I can't really see the point of this package other than for GM to make money. It would be far better if they could of come out with an RS version for trackdays, with the present climate I'll keep dreaming though.

So true. Vettes are much better fits to small waisted Englishmen. Particularly the types with little weenies who drive Porsches to compensate.

There is at least some consistency in the quality of your posts.

...because British people aen't fat lard-arses, of course.

As a Corvette fan, but nevr having liked the C6 styling, this simply underlines what I have always thought which is that black nacelles amke it look a million times more attractive than the body colour kit-car look. I could live with that in Z06 form. Now where is the PH Section for selling children.

Is this actually a relevant article? All UK C6 have th Z51 suspension and brakes. Does this add stickers, different wheels and a performance exhaust?

Included in the package:
- Competition Gray Exterior Stripes, Wheels, and Headlamps
- Corvette Racing =Jake‘ and CSR logos on b-pillar, headrest, and center armrest
- Ebony Interior with titanium embroidery
- Corvette Racing Pedals from GCA
- Special engine cover
- Racing style numbers with number based on build sequence to be installed by customer
Available in either Coupe 1LT with 436 hp or Z06 1LZ with 505 hp versions
- Z06 version available in 17U Blade Silver or 41U Black
- Coupe version available in 17U Blade Silver or 10U Arctic White
- Coupe version also includes in package:
- Z51 Performance Package, NPP Performance Exhaust, Differential Cooler
- Head Up Display
- Red Painted Brake Calipers
- Z06 tall spoiler

This is a package that is unlikely to cost much and has been greeted with huge derision in the US. As noted, much of this is standard on the UK Vettes so it's mainly irrelevant. The door stickers are fortunately optional. The guess is that this is purely a hasty marketing model to raise interest in the Corvette and get sales moving.

Rumour is that the big stuff comes next year with the return of Torch Red (woo-hoo!) but more importantly, the return of the Gran Sport - now whether vthat's a bigger power C6 or a bigger power Z06, I don't know. The last Gran Sport appeared in 1996 and got an extra 35hp.

Just because you can't afford to buy one doesn't give you the right to put us Americans down. Have some respect! You'd be speaking German if it weren't for us. And every country would take a piece of you without our protection. So, cool it! Jealousy will get you nowhere...

Feel free to put your pint glasses down for 5 minutes and come around the back for a "chat" as you say, if you feel so strongly.

Not sure about the door sticker, it makes it look like a slot car.

Still think the C6 is the best car on the road, if it wasn't for my mahoosive mortgage I'd buy one in an instant.

So well said Sir,

Just because the average UK John wishes sadly to buy the cars of former enemies, gives no right to deride the good old US of A. Had the average Brit(sorry British person, so offensive to foreshorten the country of origin now as one Prince does) worked in the 1970s we would have MGs (real ones) TVR and fifty other makes of British Sports car still. I will be back to watch real Corvette Racing in the sun, let the chavs go to Le Mans with Easy Jet in their Jap Max Powers with Halfords wheel trims. How about GM do a mod for the slice of Mommas home made pie to go around corners. Though I expect Obama will have that sussed by now.

Let's face it...

The Corvette hasn't looked or driven like a Corvette in at least more than a decade.

I hate stickers and all that sh*t! No one has to like the Vette, but there's no reason for sgging off us Americans in the process. Every country has it's good and bad. I don't think we need to get into a mud slinging contest. In reference to Obama... I'll be happy when my fellow Marines are back home and out of Iraq. And maybe, just maybe a few less Palestinian children wil be slaughtered over the next few months. Now there's your modern day Holocaust.

Back to the Corvette... As long as I keep looking at the Z06 from the side ONLY I'll love it. But please don't show me a photo of it from the front. Ugh!

It's a sticker package that has had derision poured upon it by Americans who are equally disappointed by it. That said, there aren't many Mustangs round without stripes so there are plenty of people who are quite happy with the aesthetic differences.

This is a bit of a non-article really, especially when it ends with

"As yet there are no prices released for the Competition Sport Package or any of its elements. But when the standard ZR1 already carries a hefty £109k price tag, GM will have to be careful not to price the flagship 'Vette out of the market."

Yes, that's right, the biggest bargain in supercars so far created pricing itself out of the market... rolleyes
