Hi All,

Got myself a vintage seamaster, a very early 80's model.

Absolutely chuffed with it.

The problem is that my local Timpson could not make the steel strap smaller ?!

In all fairness the pins seems short and when you look from both side they are nowhere near the outer edge.

This means their tool was not long enough to push the pins out ?

Is this normal...should I just take it too a dealer ? How much will that cost??

Can't you use a needle or something?

Normal springy pins, right?

No not the normal springy pins....these are the strap pins where you take the links out.

Not sure if this will help but I still use a 1973/74 Seamaster with metal link strap. I can adjust it at the fold over clasp by moving the usual spring pins that attach the last link to the clasp and I can also remove links. I guess that you are trying to remove links. The links nearest to the clasp are removable. On mine, the links are connected to each other by a pin that can be accessed from the underside of the strap through a small hole in each link and eased out using a small pointed object.

I found out how to do it by taking my watch to an Omega Dealer who removed the links in a couple of minutes on the display counter whilst I watched him. I don't think he charged me but it was some years ago.

There is no harm in taking it to a dealer and asking.
