Does anyone have any information about the diagnostic socket in the wiring loom by the battery?
I know there was a device on the US Range Rover that worked as a simple code reader. If I can get the relevant information, I intend to build a reader or computer interface. However, I can't find any details on the interface, other than that the data is presented as a serial stream.
Having successfully built ODBII interfaces, I am confident I produce something even though I believe this device is non-standard.
Anyone else interested?

Hehehehe. Very good.

There's bugger all electronics to worry about in the Chim is there so why get stressed about a plug in diag.

Don't get me wrong, I have a 3rd party diag set up for my 300zx but hell, there's even a 'black box' for the fuel pump controller! So a multi meter and 2 paperclips is a tad redundant, unlike the TVR that can all be checked using the aforementioned set-up.

The 300zx one is: http://300zx-twinturbo.com/conzult/

I would be real interested in getting an interface like this
I have seen what information is available on the commercial units - and while it's not a huge amount - it would still be extremely useful. In New Zealand I understand that the unit costs about NZ$30000 - about GBP10000. This includes touch screen etc
It is the same as for the Land Rover - so you need to get those interface details - I can't help on that I'm afraid!

The fault code reader can be bought from a Land Rover dealer for about £120 (or at least it could a cuople of years ago).

Cheers,

Mike.

£120 about right - code reader is still available, but doesn't fit my early Griff - different white round plug - all the Chimaeras should have the correct rectangular black plug to allow it to connect up.
As in shpub bible, which has fault code listings, a very useful bit of kit for engine fault-finding... except on my car

Thanks for all the input. It was the Bible guide to fault codes that made me interested in producing a device. If I can get any information, I will be happy to design a simple DIY device and post details on here.

Thanks again
