In a nutshell, the lights were left on, battery went dead, AA came and started it again, drove home, tried to turn the car off but it wont turn off. The key comes out and everything but it just keeps running. Tried disconnecting the battery and its still running.

Could it have anything to do with my turbo timer? When the battery was recharged, the turbo timer wouldnt power up.

Need help urgently. My car has been running perfectly up to now.

You have a turbo timer? I'd suspect that's the culprit, connecting and disconnecting batteries and jump leads is a good way to damage electronics. Is there any form of override on it? If not, one option would be to stick it in 4th gear with the foot brake on hard and let the clutch up smoothly but quickly to stall it. You'd probably still have the ignition on and a flat battery in the morning but at least the engine is stopped.

Its a M reg Celica GT4. I cant find any over ride on the turbo timer but to be honest I dont really know what im doing anyway. Moral of the story - never let your fiance borrow your car. Ive stalled it now but still wanna know how the hell im gonna fix the problem.

Funnily enough I did my apprenticeship working on those engines when I was with the Toyota GB works rally team. I can hold my spanner with both hands, lol.

Throw the turbo timer in the bin.

Keeps the engine running for a period after you leave the car to let it cool down, minimising damage to the turbo.

My XR2 used to do something similar. It's had a Zetec fitted in place of the CVH and one of the characteristics was it would run on when the igniton was switched off. It was taking a live feed from something, putting a diode in the battery warning light wire fixed it

^ Especially as you could just drive normally for a short while before arriving at your destination or spend a few moments in the car running the engine yourself. just to let the oil circulate and take the heat from the turbo bearings.

Are they legal? I thought it was illegal to leave a vehicle unattended with the engine running.

I'm waiting to see when this government makes farting illegal, bad for the environment.

The amount of st that comes out of the government...I doubt they'd do that. at lesat not until people start trying to harness it for generating power.

Another vote for binning the turbo timer here. They serve no purpose other than to lighten the owners wallet/purse by both the initial purchase and the subsequent waste of fuel from using them.

You're turbo's most likely water cooled anyway.

Or you could channel the fart into your engine's air intake - hydrogen system and all that.
