My temperature gauge is no longer registering any temperature. I've checked the sender and that shows a resistance of 600k cold and about 400k when hot so it looks like it is faulty unless someone else knows better.

Does anyone know whe made the temp gauge or of a suitable replacement sender other than through TVRCarParts?

cheers
Jed

Edit to add - it is for a S3.

If you pull the wire off the sender and short it to the engine the gauge should read hot proving it is the sender if that happens.

The way the gauge works is a thin wire wrapped around a bimetallic strip (with a bit of insulation).

The more current that flows through the thin wire the warmer it gets & causes the bimetallic strip to move and move the pointer.

If it is not working I suspect the thin wire may be broken - I'd say you have nothing to lose taking it to bits - the wire may be broken at one end in which case it may be possible to take one turn off the wire around the bimetallic strip & reattach it to the terminal.

Just a point - does your fuel gauge work?
There is a voltage regulator that feeds the temp and petrol gauge with a steady 10 volts - so you still get accurate (!) readings regardless of what state the battery & alternator is in.
Well there is on every car I've seen before - I assume the TVR has one!

If your fuel gauge doesn't work as well it may be the voltage regulator.

Very dead. Should be around >1000 ohm cold, dropping to around 100 ohm at 90°C.

I fitted a FEBI 01805 sender in mine. It requires a 50 ohm resistance in series to get the calibration right. (Ford number 6 145 143)

Thanks Le TVR - I thought it was too high so will look for another.

While digging around I've also found that a connector in the valley had some poor joints so only 3v was getting to the sender but it now gets 5v.

cheers
