I'm sitting at my desk looking out the window at the cold wet weather thinking about what I should have for dinner tonight. It must be confort food nothing fancy like bangers n mash with onions, gravey and a slab of crusty bread with lashings of butter to mop the plate.

Any other ideas??

Nothing more comforting that a homemade cottage pie.
Well worth the effort for the end result.

Seconded. And that includes the furry pallette you achieve by diving in there before it's cooled sufficiently. Every bloody time!

Pork & Beans

My own recipe is from an ancient 70's cook book but this is close enough. The treacle gives a real depth of flavour without making sickeningly sweet.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/bostonb...

Just replace the dried beans with a can of mixed beans for speed of cooking. I chuck in diced boned pork chops and add a bit of stock. Don't bother with pressing garlic cloves into onions either. I just roughly chop a large normal onion and fry it off before the pork goes in.

You can have it ready in an hour on the hob, just don't let it dry out too much.

Great with a hunk of buttered bread in front of the telly.
