Interesting Meeting
Discussion
You may (or of course may not
) be interested to know that earlier in the week I attended a meeting on Anti-Social behaviour in our town. The aim was to identify what anti-social behaviour was causing a problem and what we could do about it. For once speeding wasn't mentioned! However the topics that came up where grafitti, litter, vandalism, noise on Fridays and Saturdays when the pubs kick out, and illegal parking often on pavements.
The local police seargant was there, and he commented on the illegal parking that due to the reports of persecution of the motorist in the press at the moment taking action on parking would not be popular. I found this interesting because it appeared to be official policy to lay off the motorist a bit, and also because whilst Sussex does have a Scamera Partnership they do not appear to be as unrerasonable as other such partnerships. Ie the sites both mobile and fixed are clearly marked, the vans are clearly marked, and they appear to operate in accident blackspots. They have also made great use of flashing signs to educate drivers, and haven't (yet) reduced all speed limits to 30mph despite pressure from villagers to do so.
I wonder if laying opff motorists is offical policy or not? The ironic thing being that illegal parking is a right pain on the arse, even if it is only as someone pops to the cashpoint as it nicely fouls up traffic flow!

I have no problem with Devon and Cornwall's.
The only trap I have ever seen was on a single track going over a hill with many roads going on to it (blackspot even in my opinion) and there was a sign before the hill saying "Speed Trap Ahead - Devon and Cornwall Police" and WELL after that was the speed trap.
If you got caught by that then you deserve to be!

I guess you don't live in Plymouth then? They had a big clamp down a few weeks back and the talivan was appearing all over the place. A favorite mobile site is on the (40mph dual carriageway) Embankment Road going into the city center, just after a Gatso i.e. were most people tend to speed up.

Ouch! Cheers for that! I go to plymouth on business sometimes. I will be looking out for that. Either that or I will blast down on the bike and jam the
ers!
I'd have to agree with Chris that the Sussex Scamera partnership doesn't seem to be as bad as the rest. They even send me a weekly E-mail saying where any new fixed sites are, and listing the times and locations of the mobile sites.
This would be very counter productive if all they were interested was raising revenue? I can't speak for other counties though, and I dare say overt revenue raising does go on from what I've heard on here and the news.

What I've seen of Hampshire BiB they seem to have a very grown up attitude to this as well. They were one of the last to introduce speed/safety camera's and they appear to be in the right(ish) places.
We've had road works and hard shoulder closures on the M27 for months now, but no reduction in the limit or the placing of cameras
.
Plain cars/bikes & mobile sites seem to be on some of the 'better' A roads, some of which I use
but they seem to be keen to stop the bikers killing themselves, fair call as they go to make up a significant proporion of the Hants fatal rta's AFAIK.
All in all no real complaints in Hants from me, thats not to say I won't moan sometimes though
.
Although I understand the M3 does have its share of nazi type of scamera work, but I rarely have cause to use that one
.

Can you post a link to this?
I partially agree. Most of the camera's I've seen in sussex are sensibly placed & to my amazement I've even seen some preceded by and illuminated speed sign!
HOWEVER the w*nkers have put cameras on the A24 where a T juntion joins the A24 with a cut through in the middle. ie Cars can cross 4 lans of fast DC.
This does kill many people and road redesign is the answer not camera's.
If I can spot the cause of crashes why can't they? A classic expample of peoples belive in th espeed kills sh1te resulting in more deaths.
Because theyre "unreasonable"...obviously..
.
No matter how "nice" you may think it is of them to be "visible", theyre only there for one reason, the revenue aspect of it all.
Seems like some of you just have forgotten that.
Maybe their speel is working on you...subliminally pervading your subconcscious mind and swaying your judgement into the " theyre not so bad" state of mind......
Scamera clubs, theyre after your cash in a flash.

Stop press! Both camera's have been torched! The plastic wrappers were sill on them!
Great work!
Now lets have roundabout which will *SAVE LIVES*.
I'm betting that *won't* get torched because people understand the benefits.
