Hi all, I'm currently out of work and while checking over my previous P45's and wage slips I've noticed for one job i held, i paid someone else's tax and N.I, caused by a Y been inputted rather than a J.

Could this effect anything? Anyone have any idea what i can do to rectify this?

Thanks in advance.

Oops! I guess NI contributions could effect your right to benefit when out of work. HM Revenue and Customs should be able to help and advise. Tel: 0845 91 54655, office hours weekdays 08:00 to 17:00

I imagine it to be either an error while inputting data at the place i worked, either caused by my child like handwriting, or the admins inability to read and check.

It does sometimes happen.

Unless NIC have contacted you to tell you, in all likelihood, they've already noticed that the NI number doesn't agree to the named person, and a simple amendment on the records has already taken place.

Of course, if you already had a contribution for that particular year with another job, then they might not have bothered, as you will have that year covered towards state pension etc.

Give them a ring and check though.
