i dont know, there should be, but as the organisers of the mini 50 have decided to have the celebrations on a car park in the middle of birmingham (in an area that is so rough, legend has it that the 35 grand in sponsorship that bmw gave them has been blown on security fencing) instead of at on of the circuits it looks very unlike its going to happen.

a real shame, but mini fanboys nowadays like to go to mini shows in fancy dress and toot their horns, rather than celebrate some of the stuff that actually made the mini the great car it is - i.e motorsport!

Don't know about the fastest Mini in the World race, but there will be Mini racing at Silverstone for the MINI United event in May which is the MINI / BMW official birthday event (www.miniunited.com). Mini Se7ens and Miglias will be providing the classic Mini racing and the German MINI Challenge the modern stuff.

Going back to the thread, MN did run a story this week (Page 9) on Harvey Death's 380bhp Mini he is building for the Fastest Mini in the World race. They did say that the date has yet to be firmed up but is likely to be in May. Reading between the lines this may mean that it will also be at Silverstone on 22-24 May.

This is only valid if a Proper Mini not some Bini that can be very easily tuned to stupid power.

i.e. if it isn't A series based botton end, where do you draw the line?

That's a good point, there's a 50th anniversary pair of races at Lydden this year (27th/28th June) and they will approach this by having two grids. One for 'A' series 5 ports with 10" wheels and another for 'specials' which will cover everything else from spaceframes to bike engined conversions.

A real shame that Pete Baldwin's "Baby BDA" is in a glass case in some Japanese shopping centre (so the story goes). I'd love to see that back out again in anger, and I'm sure with Pete at the wheel, it'd win.

Correct me if I am wrong but was that car also used to make a drama series in the 80's about a female housewife who became a racing driver?? i forget what the series was called but was sure it was a BDA'd Clubman??

Correct the program was called Driving ambition. There were 2 cars used in the program, 1 was Pete Baldwins car & an other wich was used in the accident scene.
That particular car i purchased a few years later & is also now in Japan.

When I was a kid, my dad used to take me and my brother to various races at Brands. These included the British/European GP, Flying Tigers 1000km and club events. One of the most spectacular cars was Peter Baldwins spaceframe BDA Mini, closely followed by the noise of Win Percy's Group A Mazda RX 7....

some very low grid sizes for the minis given it was a 50th anniversary special? surely they could have got the super/mighty minis involved to boost the numbers?
