Emigrating to Canada - What do you think

Thought about it myself a few times, there are several issues to bear in mind - taxation is a lot higher than the uk (a big negative for me as a tax exile 
), though the cost of living is generally cheaper. General standard of living health/education etc are better than the UK. There are things I would miss though, UK motorsport for one, but then I also love the outdoors and Canada has plenty of that. Much closer than Oz or NZ (9 hours to Vancouver from London). Warmer summers and colder winters (rather than constant grey drizzle) are also nice. Good pubs in BC too.

Th people,the food and the place are all good.Gets bloody cold in the winter but is nice in the summer.
They have pubs that serve Fish and chips!! What more could you want..

I love it (not that I've been to England). All the BS about weather and bugs (which can be true!) is far more dependant on where you live than anything. All of GB fits in about 1/3 of Saskatchewan (1 of 13 provinces/territories), so if you don't like the weather - just move about a bit. Personally, I love 4 proper seasons, some of the world's wildest temp ranges (40C to -40C), and a small'ish population. I disliked Vancouver for having exactly none of that!
What you do/want to do would probably have more to do with where you end up than anything.

Some folks do well some not so. there are all the same bad things as there are in the UK, you know - taxation, crime, credit crunch, pikeys
coupled to cold weather, and mozzies the size of small birds
That said there are lots of cool things too, I can even watch last years top gear on bbc canada
the immigration process can be lengthy, unless you can get a job ahead of time
it costs about the same to live here, although houses and new cars are usually cheaper
there are a few expat forums about which you might find useful to read - www.britishexpats.com, and www.britishexpat.com to name but two

I've heard that with the recent downturn in the world economy that the immigration process has become more stringent and the time taken to get work visas, etc has been extended.I've been in canada for 2 years now. It's a great place but I miss the UK a lot. I'm returning home in August. Bear in mind, if you move to Canada there are basically 5 months of the year where you can't really go outside. Loads of great facilities do help with this but you aren't going to be going for a quick 18 holes in December

Lived and worked in Toronto when I was 19, nearly didn't come back I loved it that much! It all depends what you expect and put into making a go of it over there. I know of people who've gone and come back miserable due to bad experiences.
Personally I wouldn't hesitate to go there, Americanized lifestyle with a lot less of USA's problems. Also Montreal has some of the most beautiful women tucked away inside it:0) Downside is the proper 4 season of weather (but I love that !) and slightly higher tax.
