Hi Guys,

I am in need of a new battery, seems all the lying around over the last few months has killed it off! I have tried the search options, but it is down at the moment

Is this battery http://www.carbatteryshop.co.uk/i-Type-096R-Varta-... the best one to go for?

Does anyone know if it fits ok, or do you have any other recommendations.

Cheers

Ian

I took the box out and took it to a local battery shop to get the one that fitted with the biggest cranking figure, ie a fair bit greater than the one that was in. Cost around £50 - 2 year guarantee.
There are a lot of options if you do a search.

I was going to fit either an Optima Red Top (4.2l S) or an Odessey 1500. Both pricey but premium options.

Having said that, I chucked the existing battery on an Optimate and it's recovered it enough to keep going until next winter.

Don't forget to mark where the box is before you start to undo the bolts that hold the box in place, or it can be a right pain getting the holes lined up.

If you can get one that fits, Costco do Bosch Silver batteries with a 4 year guarantee for good money.

Must confess I just fitted a Halfords one of the highest amperage I could get. They have a 5 year guarentee so after 4 1/2 years just go back and get an exchange unit f.o.c. wink

This is my game lads.................. so here goes

Halfords are generally Yuasa batteries (japanese) fitted to nearly all japanese cars, and are fantastic

Yuasa used to supply them also labelled as 'Lucas' batteries.

Bosch silver tops are top notch as well, bosch offer a 5 year warranty as long as you take it back every year to be checked so dont be fooled read the small print.....

Varta and Hoppecke just as good.

Deta is also a fantastic battery, fitted as o.e to Audi, Bmw.

All pricey, but you get what you pay for.........

Cheers guys, for all the tips and help. I have ordered the varta one online, just can't wait for all the fun of swapping in out!

Hopefully it will also cure my alarm problems as well.

Not really as diffcult as people make out. Mark the floor and box in a couple of places with a black felt tip marker and spray a bit of WD40 on the screws under the floor, these get a bit stiff where they are sprayed in muck from underneath.

Any comments on the Odessey and Optima batteries I suggested? Can you elaborate on your experience?

I respectfully suggest that before removing the battery box screws, you use white TIPEX to mark the location of the battery box corners...it shows up much better on the black floor than black pen! Also, I suggest that you use brown or black window mastic on the battery box screws, where their heads are exposed under the car. Try and cover the heads completely with mastic and form a seal with the resulting "mastic dome" and the underside of the car. It is worth taking a bit of trouble, as it will make it very easy to clean and remove the screws next time. Finally, have your key fob (plipper) handy, as sometimes when you reconnect the battery, the alarm goes off...very loud in the garage, especially if you are lying half in the car footwell! Make sure your choice of battery has a handle on top, as this will make removing it from the battery box so much easier next time! Good luck!

Hey guys, come on don't fall out over this !

I just swapped mine out using both black pen and tipex! Ok just black pen only but hey it worked!

Have silicones over the heads underneath, as it was like this before and it made swapping it much easier.
