Hi guys - I'm looking for the inner tube diameter of the two main coolant tubes that run from rear to front on a bog standard 1.8 K-series elise, the tubes I refer to are the ones mounted on the chassis, not the engine ones........I have a rear engined kit car and am considering a front mounted radiator.....I dont want huge diameter pipes as it will all weigh a ton......I'm guessing Lotus would have trimmed this particular area down to the minimum, so if any of you have your car in bits at the moment and could measure the inner tube diameter for me, I'd be very greatful.

I have done some calculations and it looks like 22mm copper plumbing pipe will do the trick with a 20mm ID...as the max flow velocity will hit about 4m/s, which is fast, but not too fast........but I thought I'd ask around first.

I'd suggest looking at aluminium tubing for both light weight and heat dissipation.

Not sure where you are in the country, but somewhere like Merlin motorsport http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/index.php?cPath=... sells aluminum tubing by the metre, specifically designed for cooling applications.

Rubber hoses are 32mm ID from memory, so the alloy tubes will be slightly less.

yup, 32mm OD

massively OTT, 20mm (with a decent pump) would cut it

aye?.....one of you says 32mm OD and the other says ID......which one is correct?......but thanks for the effort!.......if its 32mm OD, the rubber hose is about 4-5mm wall thickness, which brings it down to 22-24mm ID.......which was what I was kinda hoping to hear

sorry?

the ALI pipe is 32mm OD, NOT the rubber hoses onto it.
