Hello guy's, I'm from Buckinghamshire, last tube station on the London underground. Currentl I'm driving a Merc SLK230, which I've had for 7 years. I'm sorely tempted to buy a big old barge, given the astounding prices they are fetching at auction. Love driving and have done quite a few major trips in UK, Europe, South Africa and USA.
My next trip is going to be in June down to Carcassonne. Oh and I might go and visit a mate down in Cornwall in the near future.
Nice to make your acqaintance

Have you been to Carcassone before?
If you haven't you'll love it, but better still you'll love the roads into the Pyrennes, go there via the town of Foix, if you get lunch in the town don't taste the wine until you have tasted the water, it is straight from the Pyrennes melt water and just tastes how you always thought water should taste.
The roads in that whole area are quiet and fabulous, If you want I'll hunt out some of my previous tour maps of that area, there was one road in the lower hinterland that went through the most beautiful valley I have ever seen in France, lightly wooded, green and with the mountains as a back-drop and road as fast and smooth and well sighted as any enthusiast could ever wish for.
It is in my books the best and least regarded part of France.
Also if you time it right you might hit the Bentley Conti guys in Blois on the way down and Blois is a beautiful town with real history and seeing 30 or so Bentley contis of all ages in the upper square by the Magicians House makes the day perfect (take a picnic and sit on the battlements around the upper square and overlook the river as it lazily rolls by.
Damn it! You might see me there now I come to think of it, warm lazy days parading around town in fab cars and the locals loving it... bliss!
ETA, sorry, welcome ianash, I'm new here too.

Thanks Vince,
Really appreciate your advice about trip to Carcassonne. I've not yet firmed up on exact date of trip yet as my OH has to plan her vacation around her boss's priorities. I love the idea of watching Bentley's waft around in beautiful surroundings. Any maps or further suggestions of where to go, what to see and maybe where to stay would be very welcome.
Best regards
Ianash

Cool, I'll be back at my other house next week-end so will hunt out the bits, you have made me want to anyway!
The day in Blois was one of the best days of my motoring life, the food is fabulous in the evening (the was a fab restaurant which might be there still) and all the Conti drivers ate there that evening, not much night life though but perfect for an overnighter!
I have pretty much decided that I will try to do it again this year, the towns people loved the cars being there, they paraded 'round the lower square and parked up, the lower square is all flowers and quite beautiful in the summer sun, another hidden gem.
I'll put it all up for you.

Thanks Vince,
Look forward to hearing from you.
Last year I drove down to the south of France staying one night in Dijon, lovely city, worth a visit on its own. Then drove to Grenoble and took the Route Napoleon to Grasse, this is my second time on this route. Great drive. We stayed over for two nights in Vence, again a great place to stay. From there we drove along the coast to Genoa, then turned north and headed to Varenna on Lake Como. We stayed here for 3 nights had had some fabulous drives around the lake and up into the surrounding mountains. We then set of for Annecy via Aosta. This took us over the Col du Piccolo St Bernardo. The St Bernardo Pass is truly an astounding bit of driving and if you've not yet driven it do put it on your list. After a night in Annecy, pretty city we came home via 1 night in Troyes.
