Hi

A close friend of mine who lives in Austria paid in full for a caravan to what she thought was a reputable company. Yes maybe it was naive but its done and she now 'may' be £8,000 out of pocket.
The caravan was to be delivered to a permanent site on Monday. This date was then postponed by the company to this Friday. Again it didn't appear.
Having phoned the company today for answers she was told the owner was out for lunch. No return call was made.
She has since checked their website and the stock they had only a week ago seems to have dwindled to zero.

Does anyone know of ANY information about this company

http://www.jandjcaravans.co.uk/ Based in Rhyl, North Wales.

As yet no accusations are being made. We are just looking for info.

And please please only helpful responses.
Thanks in advance. Paul

Well they're not dissolved or in liquidation according to Companies House.

Which is something, I guess.

the caravan building industry is in a bit of st, Avondale went last summer i should know the exact date seeing as i was an employee at the time, and a lot of the companies round Hull (one of the 2 caravan building hotspots in the uk) seem to be in trouble, so the caravan seller could be struggling for stock or stock delivery.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Engineer, they had 15 or so advertised last week and now they have none. I believe they mainly deal in used caravans.

Does anyone live in the area who could check the place out for me? I'm two hours away but may will travel down if ness. I'm not entirely sure where that will get me other than to confirm they are still in buisness.

Can you give more details of any correspondence between your friend and this company? I am interested because friends of ours were victims of an internet scam in December. Looking at the J&J web site, there are both positive and negative signs:

The positive - a whois lookup on the domain name shows that it was registered in May 2006. Most scammers set up a web site only at the moment they need it. In our friends case, the web site of the company scamming them had been set up 2 days before.

A possible negative is that the J & J website shows the "Powered by Microsoft Office Live Small Business". I think this is a free system Microsoft is promoting at present. Both the scam website our friends fell for, and another, (see http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... knows PG Transport, Newport Pagnell?) were also using this system.

How did your friend pay? Not Western Union I hope?

Please give as much info as you can.

Sunbeam - The company has been around for a while it seems, so we don't think its and overnight scam.
My friend will dig out more info soon, she paid the deposit by credit card and the remainder through HSBC.
Another phone call will be made tomorrow. Fingers crossed

How much was the deposit? Does this mean she is covered for the whole payment? Although I guess the fact she is in Austria may complicate matters unless its a UK based card.

Delivered today. Many thanks to all who replied.
They are still in buisness, they are just really poor communicators.
