focus st170 gearbox problems

hi just wondering if anyone knows what could be wrong with my gearbox, im having problems mainly going from 1st gear to 2nd seems to get stuck in 1st and wont come out until you pull away and press clutch again ,this only happens occasionally any help would be greatly appreciated? thanks darren

Im thinking a linkage problem which I had with one of my past cars which should be easy and cheap to fix but then I have never been that mechanically minded so could be totatlly wrong..

I would bleed the clutch and then see if you still have the problem.

As the transmission is a Getrag 285 the spares are limited to external parts, a reman unit from your Ford dealer or a secondhand unit.

Is the ST170 Getrag 6 speed the same as the ST220 Mondeo Getrag 6 speed?

Same box as Supercharged Cooper S too. Never had an issue with either 170/CS I had.

Hmm, I'm guessing they are different internally then if the ST170 Focus box is MT285, as the Mondeo is shown as MMT6?
Anyone know if there is any sort of compatability internally?

Sounds more like a clutch problem to me the St170 clutch is something ive replaced quite a bit but ive never seen or heard of a gearbox problem with one bar the one ive replaced due to the clutch breaking up & blowing a load of holes in the bellhousing

The mondeo box is a completely differant unit the St170 Getrag unit is unique in the Ford range although as said its also fitted to the cooper s & civic type r.
