I have seen many people on pistonheads use this and also on the facebook group about the meatballs.

But why do you seem to use it and where did it come from?

Never seen it used anywhere else really. Rest of world seem to go Yum, or something along those lines.

Is it the noise fat people make when eating?

I gotta admit it, I first saw it in the picture below, and it still irritates the life outta me now. I can only assume its an internetism. (tm)

It's how it sounds when you say "yum, yum, yum" with a mouth full of cake!

I have only seen it on here. But after a quick google it appears to be a geek term used quite a lot.

This is what I always think of when I hear nom nom nom. I think used in the right context it a very funny statement. This picture is particularly good because he seems to be a 'feeder'.

It is Thai for boob. Or milk. Same word. yes

Though I doubt that is what the Facebook Feckwits mean by it.

Proper nom, and frikin funny (girl wheel clamped for taking too long to eat an entire KFC value bucket)..

ha ha ha ha ha

Sun article:
"The trainee nurse and a pal plumped for FOURTEEN chicken pieces, SIX bags of fries and large COKES after driving to their local branch.

They spent an hour and a half scoffing the 5,456-calorie feast. Days later regular customer Natalie got the fine in the post for breaking the restaurant car park’s 75-minute limit.

The 24-year-old fumed yesterday: “It’s disgusting. I spend a lot of money in there. Now I’m never going back.”

Natalie — who eats at KFC three times a week — complained to restaurant bosses that she was unaware of signs warning of the time limit in Huddersfield, West Yorks.

The mega bucket, which busts the Health Department’s recommended 1,940-a-day calorie count for women, cost her £13.16p.

Natalie vowed there was fat chance of her paying the £150 — insisting: “It didn’t feel like I was in there all that long. We were hungry.”

As with most of these memes, I suspect it came from the 4chan's /b/. And as Sheets says, don't go there - eventually you'll see things you wish you hadn't!
