MOT failure - main beam lights in wrong place!
Discussion
This can't be right.
MOT station that I have been using for years have just decided that they cannot pass my precat (all standard with main and dipped lights working) because 'headlamps matched pair are not the same size' and 'headlamps matched pair are incorrectly positioned'.
Reasons given they are not symmetrical (should be like the old doly sprint at the same level) and that the main beam lights are too low.
Anyone had any experience like this?
The MOT tester has undertaken to check with Vospa on Monday.
Regards Ian

It is all down to the Construction and Use regulations, (vehicle Lighting)
The lights on all vehicles, have to be a minimum height from the ground, a certain distance apart.... etc...etc.
The car passed these regulations when it was new and therefore, unless you have modified the car should pass the MOT now...
Sounds like the tester has run out of brains and needs to consult his MOT manual...
He should not have failed your car but should have aborted the test until he refreshed his (sadly lacking) memory..
I would take it to another station that has a sympathetic and reseanoble tester... IMO

Two different headlight units were fitted at different times. It is likely that one has been replaced with the wrong one at some point, hence the units not matching.
As for the position of the lights, the suspension setup can affect the height of the lights. A suspension setup might cure the problem. It could also be springs going soft.
You should ask this MOT tester what measurements specifically he thinks are out, and by how much.
It’s unlikely, but it is just possible that there is a problem and the whole Griff production doesn’t meet the regulations.
I know of at least two separate occasions that cars have had to be recalled because the designer had screwed up. One happened to be the headlights on the Triumph 2500PI. At the time they were being used as Police cars. These couldn’t be used until the issue was fixed.
