The balls have no memory. Each week you have the same chance, 14,000,000 to 1. Playing it all you life doesnt reduce your chances of winning at all or increase your licklyhood of winning.

Playing 2 tickets doubles your chances, but doesnt halve the odds. Its a maths con.

The odds of those numbers coming out are exactly the same as 1,2,3,4,5,6...

No it doesn't. You have 13.98M/1 chance of winning in week 1. You have the same chance of winning in week 2, the same in week 3 and so on. Every week you play you have exactly the same chance of winning. The only way to increase your chance of winning is to buy more tickets.

If you buy two tickets you double your chances of winning to 6.99M/1, four tickets will give you odds of 3.495M/1 and so on right up to buying every possible combination of numbers for a guaranteed jackpot, which you will then have a high probability of sharing.

I'm led to believe that the lottery rules prevent you buying every combination of ticket for an individual draw.

I think it's a tax on the poor who sometimes can see it as their only way out of poverty. When I lived in Aberdeen I used to see an elderly, wretched looking woman buy 5 tickets + 5 scratch-cards every week I went in for the Saturday papers.

Its my way out of imminent financial disaster but after 5 weeks I have not won a bean. I was so sure that the mortgage would be paid off and that I would be learning how to navigate my yacht into St.Tropez.

Oh well! there is always next week.

I know the odds are as good as impossible, but someone wins it every week. £2 a week online costs me no effort, and its better than no chance at all.

Gotta love peoples attitude to the lottery - stupid tax blah blah. Try telling the winners every week! I know someone who has won the lottery. He still plays it every now and then! He has won a 5 figure sum on it as well before. Lucky git!

If you think that lottery is a poor/stupid persons tax then I assume you apply that to all gambling!
