The joys of air conditioning systems

Has anyone tried to get the condenser out of a finished GTR? I did today. What a pain in the Arse. In fact, I couldn't get it out so I had to destroy it to get it out. I'm not super impressed with the design of this part of the car as a result of not being able to remove it. I just visited Summitracing.com and they have a few condensers that are small enough to easily fit will actually be removable. I had a leak in the condenser so it needed to come out.

Here is the question. Does anyone have any info of really high efficiency condensers? I would like one about 12" x 12-15" rather than the 12" x 18" that the factory uses. Alternatively, if the smaller unit is undersized for this task, what about using 2 of the 12" x 12" units?

I know there aren't many A/C gurus on here but I thought I'd ask if anyone has any thoughts on this topic.

You can have a custom one made by any rad. refurb company: as an example

Would it be possible to fit a thicker condensor? Then you would be able to keep the same surface area (same efficiencey) but keeping the height/width to your prefered diamentions. If you send them your old one then they should be able to knock one up, keeping the in and out pipe locations the same.

If you just fit a smaller condenser, then you may get problems with the head pressure on a hot day and it will cut-out when you need it the most!

I think "UltimaCZ" had a different one in his. i think he has some photos in the gallary so you should be able to find his usernamd. red GTR with carbon side pod inserts.

Why not, it's only a radiator with a fancy name.

Be Cool makes some efficient ones in different sizes, i havent used em in an Ultima though.

They are pricey, I think there is a guy on here making an alternative in CF or fiberglass.
