Just changed the oil on my 4.2, warmed it up then drained the oil(left it for a day or so because i was busy with work) then refilled, levels perfect but when i started the car i got no pressure on the gauge, i only ran it for very short time. Is this normal? If i leave it for a min or 2(very reluctant to do this) will it come thru? Does the pump need primed or somthing?
Obviously not wanting to run the car with no pressure..

Oh the pressure was good before i changed the oil,

Cheers

I had exactly this when I changed my pressure spring many moons ago and it was the oil pump that needed priming. Eventually I gave up and lo-loaded it to APM to get it sorted as I didn't want to take the risk of bu88ering it up.

Did you chang the filter at the same time? If you did, then the filter needs to filled with oil before you fit it.

Remove the oil hose to the filter housing ( the long one that runs to the oil cooler) and use an oil can to pump some oil down it to back fill to the pump.

I thought it was only RV8s that suffered with the pump draining!

I've used a vac-pump to suck the air out of the pump when I have experienced this problem.

Hmmm....I'll be doing this job soon....assume, as with the rover based V8 in my previous chimaera, that if you drain and refill quickly this problem will not occur...?

I certainly dont think its a common problem. When I started my engine for the first time I just turned it over a few times without any plugs, and after a second or two the pressure came right up.
