I absolutely refuse to go into the LBS again to sort this one out!

I'll keep it brief... 2008 Cube Peloton roadbike, running Shimano 105 groupset.

I was riding home from work today, shifted gears and the chain tangled, couldn't work out whar was wrong at first until I saw the "Knot" in the chain by the rear mech.

Got it working again, but now the rear mech randomly flicks between gears when pedalling.

It's managed to seriously do my head in, in the space of about 3 minutes.

Indexing? How do I go about adjusting it?

TIA!

You can download a full set of instructions from Shimano's website.

If the indexing was fine before, however, then you may want to check that you haven't either bent the jockey wheel cage or twisted/bent one of the chain links.

I'd say you've bent the cage, and possibly damaged the chain. Check each link, it sounds similar to an issue I had:

Thanks all...

Had a good look at the chain in daylight and at least 3 links are bent out of all recognition. I've replaced the chain and it seems to be alright. Not 100% about the mech being bent, seems OK but will keep an eye on it.

£30 for a new chain! scandalous. Having said that, it is a pimpy gold one!
