Correct, but this is the Porsche Forum, where the addicts of Stuttgart's finest export reside.

GT3 - and did'nt they love it !

Even clarkson, who never turns up the chance to have a joke at the expense of reason, admitted to loving it.

My C4 is looking pretty ordinary - poor thing.

Jan 2005? Is the waiting list really still that long?

When I first placed the order, it was the date they gave me.

I have no doubt I can probably shop around now, and get an earlier build. but the date is good for me, as it puts it near 997 GT3 territory time.. and I can maybe roll onto that .. depending on how good a review the 997 gets..

if a good review, take a 997 GT3, if poor, then get a 996 GT3 mk2, which will then become very exclusive and in demand 993 RS style, due to limited numbers.

Guys,

Save yourself a packet, take a test drive in a Noble GTO 3R.

My decision (12 months ago) was between a GT3 and the Noble 3R. Have taken delivery and driven the car for 3 weeks including a track day at the Rockingham national circuit, I can honestly say it blows the GT3 into the weeds on a number of accounts.

1. Looks.
2. Acceleration.
3. Handling on public road and circiut.
4. Value for money.
5. More smiles per mile.
6.. And there's more (Autoexpress a couple of weeks ago)

All this from a 911 RS owner for 10 years.

Cheers,
Ian.

Much respect for the Noble, but I 'm not sure about the looks personally. Wonder if the next model after the GTO12 will be the proper finished article IMHO.

The R is the best looking so far though, and no doubting its dynamic abilities.

Nice to see the car in action, especially when the Stig showed how it should be done..i was a little frustrated by the little guy driving it as he span it on every slide, sometimes the camera panned away just before to look like he was still sliding...

If you go on to the Porsche GB used car page there are about 12 GT3 including some MK2 which are basically list,,,why wait
As for a Noble it is not really that fair a comparison in my opinion,,but I am pleased that Nobles appear to be getting better and hopefully this will continue as they are developed further.

Didn't the time around the TG circuit in the wet come very close to the noble's dry lap. Surely the GT3 will beat it on a dry track with the correct tyres? And as your correctly point out some one driving it seriously.
How much are those rear tyres a set!!!!

A pair of rears can be had for just over £500 fitted if you shop around.

Lovely car, sounded quite nice, although not as good as some of our fellow owners motors on here. I'm thinking of Clubsports and DeRs cars specifically.

Probably a bit too harsh for a daily driver, unless you drive on German roads, I'd imagine it would smash your teeth to pieces driving it on UK roads.

Good review. Left a bit short changed myself as it was dubbed 40 years of the 911 so I expected a few more 911s, not just one.

Or the £430 I last paid for a pair of Pirelli P-Zero Assimetricos. Just haggle with your local dealer by quoting an internet price.

Mk 2 GT3 run on 295/30 ZR 18 at the rear, which is the same as size as the 996tt.

ADL,

The new Noble 3R has been developed considerably since the 3 ltr that was driven on Top Gear last year. Autoexpress rated the Noble 3R better (Quicker)than the GT3 on the track. The Noble is also a lot lighter than the GT3.

I don't wish to hi-jack this thread, but the Noble 3R is coming up on the rails very, very quickly.

I agree. It is far softer than a 964RS!

And if you have are a hardcore moron like me, you can use a 964RS every day (I used to commute in mine 70 miles a day, three times a week).

The 964RS incidentally, is no harsher ride than the Caterhams I used to own.

To be honest, I am not even sure that GT3 and Noble are competing head on. There is some customer overlap, for sure, but there are many customers who would be polarised and not look at 'the other car' at all.

For a start, the GT3 is a lot more expensive. It also has a famous badge that is more likely to gain respect at the Golf club (amongst the ignorati admittedly) and appear on company car and leasing company lists. It also has build quality and main dealer back up that Noble cannot match.

However, the Noble is a fine car in its own right and more of a track toy. I would say its competitors where more in the arrive/drive track day market.... 964RS/993RS, Caterham, Exige etc.

It is dead on competition for a low miles RHD 993RS if you ask me, but the GT3 is a slightly different car. If they did the GT3-RS for 58k maybe that would be a better comparison.

Fair enough to mention the Noble, tho'. I like them a lot and think they should be on every wish lists that automatically has a Ferrari or Porsche in it.
