Chimaera 4.3's..?
Discussion
Anyone,
Just a simple one this time - I know that the 4.3 engine wasnt available for very long (about one year I believe) but why is it that you hardly see any for sale? Ok, Adrian Blyth has one coming in soon - but you rarely see them?
Is the engine good / bad (delete as applicable)
Just wondering - currently have 4.0HC which I understand replaced the 4.3.
Cheers,
Paul

I had a Chim 4.3 from new. (Reg L131 DOD) and when I got it I could also buy the 4.0HC so I'm not sure about it replacing the 4.3 In fact I was also told I could get an extra 10bhp if I went for a 4.3HC option!
I think the 4.3 is good for 280bhp. It revs beautifully and I never had a moments trouble with it. I sold it to my neighbour with 30k+ miles on it after about 18 months and he took it up to something like 50k + with no problems either.
I personally prefered the 4.3 to the 5.0griff engine that came later. true the power is less, but it revs well (early Griff 5.0s can sound and feel like a cement mixer at high reves) and the exhaust note is fantastic.
I think they they must be quite rare cos several Tiv owners have said to me that they were unaware of the 4.3 Chim ever being available. Its spiritual successor is the current 4.5,(similar power figures) but even that feels a bit soft compared to my old 4.3.
I have a 400se now, and thats like chalk and cheese, but interestingly when it needed a new ignition black box the dealer fitted one that says "chim 4.3" on it.
Cheers
Andy 400se
