£50million to the FIA

Having just finished Mark Hughes excellent book on Lewis Hamilton
It reminded me of the £50million 'fine' the FIA recieved from Mclaren
Has anyone asked what they did with the money ??????

The fine was $100M, but the amount that went to the FIA was 100 less whatever McLaren should have got from the FOM points pool. The share McLaren was due went back into the pool and was distributed to the other teams pro rata with points scored. By coincidence, that amount was roughly $50M.
The FIA said that they would spend the remainder, the other 50ish, on "grassroots" motor sport programmes around the world.
The way that the FIA's $50M was subsequently distributed had nothing whatsoever to do with which side an FIA member might have taken in the Mosley "vote of confidence". Don't you dare think that.

I can confirm, as a particpant in grass roots motorsport in a country that voted against Mosley last year that I have seen none of McLaren's cash but that must just be co-incidence.

Perhaps it all got spent on travel arrangements etc for that EGM?

The fine went to the FIA Foundation (a registered charity) and will be used in their safety development fund:

You have to think about the greater good, Tony.

I'm sure that grass roots motor sport in Germany has less need for safety funding than grass roots motor sport in, say, the United Arab Emirates must have.

Surely the money was used to form the African Touring Car Championship? I hear the Mercedes team were run very close by the Peugeot 504s and the newly-appointed motorsports chairmen for each state were very pleased.

Moving on, the only mention I can find of the "The Young Driver Safety Scholarship Programme" is on the FIA's own site & there's no mention of how a young driver can apply for any of the money.

The same is true for the "The Officials Skills Safety Training Programme" and the "The Facility Safety Improvement Consultancy Programme".

Perhaps I'm just crap at internet research.
