Realtionship breakup, Divorce rate - what causes it?
Discussion
Anyone have an opinion on the increasing number of divorces that occur in the UK and the fact less and less people are opting for marriage? Is one a result of the other? What are the main causes of this?
Not just divorces, but relationships in general seem to get shorter and shorter, take for example the very public courting of celebrities relationships, are they an example of things to come or are they indirectly partly responsible for this new attitude to relationships? No sooner are they engaged and in-love, than they are seen snogging someomne else and getting divorced within a matter of months.
It just seems like everyone gives up so easily, tempted to stray, and then onto the next partner without even blinking and all within a matter of months regardless of marital status or anyone elses feelings.
whats the general consencus here on this topic?

I'd say:
- Less social stigma from being a divorcee than there used to be. Previous generations would stay together for appearances sake, current generation don't care.
- People are generally more independent, particularly women and don't seem to be as keen on the idea of marriage.
- Fewer social benefits to actually being married
- Less partaking in religion, which was a driving force behind people getting married (living in sin etc etc).
