Afternoon Chaps

Just a quicky (oo er), I have purchased a jessops 360FD thingy and a 1.4m hotshoe lead.

Upon a weekends use I have decided the lead is no use because it is too short.

If I put the flash unit in slave mode the onboard flash will trigger the slave. All good.

How can I get the flash unit to trigger when I click the shutter without the need of a wire preferably under £40 before I take this lead back.

Talk to me

Get a longer lead, much cheaper than a wireless thing . . .

These folk : http://www.theflashcentre.com/ do long leads . . .

For under £15 you could get yourself some "Poverty Wizards". Work fine for the amateur. Not a huge range, but significantly greater and more practical than a cable.

Do you have to press the trigger button on the unit aswell ...

You just put the trigger on the hotshoe, attach a receiver unit to the base of the flash and off you go. There is a button on top of the trigger unit, that's just a test button.

Well worth the money.

Will these be compatible with most units

Thanks

Compatible with all modern flashguns AFAIK - maybe someone else can confirm that? Certainly works with my Canon 430 and 580. The receiver unit is only telling the flashgun to fire, just as the camera itself would.

Scott, they are fine with virtually all flashguns, I use them with a SB600 and an old Starblitz 3200. The only problem is the flash going to sleep, when your first shot will wake them but they might not fire.
I just take another shot and delete the other photo later. They will also work over a fair distance from the trigger. At £20 - £25 for a trigger and two receivers it's worth a punt, also consider getting a wireless remote release from the same ebayer you can then move around freely especially in waking up the flash units before you take the shot biggrin

Thanks for the reply

Being utterly bored and not keen on cold evening photography, If I can sync my finger with the other when pressing the shutter button, my HIFI remote can set the flash off.

Now to master them both at once!

Doesn't appear to come with a flash sync cable? Not sure if the phottix ones do, they show one in the pics. Have used phottix batteries before and the seem pretty good (better than other nikon clones) so would personally try them over these.

They all look REALLY cheapy made though. Please remove the QC pass stickers if you buy!
(oh and let us know how you get on)

Between the sync socket and the transmitter Shown in these images at least:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Phottix-PT-04-4-Channel-Flash-Trigger-Set-with-Receiver_W0QQitemZ170295961229QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Photography_StudioEquipment_RL?hash=item170295961229&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1300 But then I guess to should able able to sync via the hotshoe. Now I'm getting confused!

Think I'll just stick to the Nikon CLS...

They are really easy to use

slot the transmitter on the hot shoe

slot the flashguns onto the receiver(s) and turn them on

now shoot - manual flash but with a digital thats easy

I have basically the same one as mentioned (I have the Phottix ones) and they work brilliantly with a Vivitar 285hv and old olympus T32 flash. No cable is required, they just slot onto the hot shoe - so as long as your jessops flash has a hot shoe (which surely it must) then in theory you don't need any cables.
Does that answer your question?

Yes thanks.

I was there until the cable was mentioned and then I just got confused.

Thanks

Oops. My fault. Sorry!

I've shamed myself, I've shamed my family, my ancestors and I've shamed Pistonheads.

I've taken the precaution of getting my coat.

(but why the hell does it show a blinkin' cable in them pics? Tempted to buy one to find out!)
