My cat delighted me last night by destroying a bird in the kitchen. Now, being a cat owner, I'm used to disposing of the corpses of small mammals, reptiles and birds in all sorts of conditions.

Last night though, the bird had been ripped open and all around the body were whole peanuts in what appeared to be pristine condition.

I never knew birds could managed whole nuts and that their powers of digestion were so weak. Learn something new everyday.

Your cat had ripped open the bird's crop. It's a storage sack in which they collect seed and nuts so they can digest it gradually.

Oh for heavens sake, easily the most misleading thread title I've ever seen.
