Not sure where to post - Suit recommendation

Anyone any ideas on best place to get kitted out for a suit for attending a wedding, as a guest that is!!! Done my bit already...

Looking for summat classic so can use again but sharp at the same time to make a bit of an impression (big budget wedding you see, least I can do) budget £500ish (is that stingy?)..would be great to get something with a decent brand name as well (does that make me a bit of a snob?)...already got the Marks and Sparks stuff...

Quite happy with my Ted Baker, sounds like you are looking for off-the-peg rather than having something bespoke. If it is basically for a wedding and not much else, I would head down to the nearest Suits You or Moss Bros outlet and pick up one of last years "models" for a cheap price.

Got a work suit (with 2 pairs of trousers), a diner suit and 2 shirts, all made to measure, £800. About £350 for the suit. Takes 8 weeks to get it made, but made to measure for that price is very good. Impressed with the quality, much better than similar prices from the high street. They fit like a dream, and look really good on me.

I wore a Paul Smith suit at my wedding, off the shelf but tailored to fit. Turn around was about a week, and cost was reasonable too at £500 ish.

TM Lewin if you are in London, really good stylish fitting suits (I have had about 10 suits from them). Miles apart from M&S or any of the high street chains such as 'suits for u' etc. They are currently doing suits half price, just to add, the suits do look how they are advetised, not like other ones which when you peer behind them have the backs pinned together. So if you er, are fond of pies, they are probably not for you.

TM Lewin are certainly not miles apart, if anything they are below M&S for quality.

and they're always doing things half price. They're the eisenegger of the suit world.

I've always been happy with Hugo Boss suits but current budgetary constraints have seen me head back to M&S.

Bought a couple of suits from them last summer, one fitted fine, the other wasn't even close (despite being ordered at the same time to the same measurements), 6 alteration visits later they gave up and remade the trousers... the result was laughable (too short by about 4 inches, too tight by two inches but strangely huge around the thighs and seat) if it hadn't taken so long and cost so much, in the end I gave up on them.... In fairness the quaility of cloth etc was fine and maybe I was just unlucky but I'd never go to them again.

Not much help for you location wise but for just under your budget I got a Hugo Boss suit (off the peg but tailored to fit), shoes (HB as well ) and a decent shirt. Went in mid Saturday morning and collected a few hours later after they had altered it on the spot.

Sure you will find similar prices in the gentleman's outfitters near to you.


Edit to add - At £309 before I got a bit more knocked off for buying the shirt and shoes at the same time (if you don't ask you don't get) my suit was only £50ish more than the only design M&S had which I would have entertained and look(s)ed 1000x better.

Depends what you mean by upmarket.

I have bought my last 7 work suits from this place (all off-the-peg, with free alterations - done within 24hrs), ranging from £160 to £500. They do a storming, cheap dinner jacket suit for around the tonne mark - perfect for wearing to a Christmas party and covering with red wine etc.

Plenty of choice of brand, colour and cut - along with old-fashioned service. I can't stop myself going back.

ha ha, each to their own, like I said they do a decent fitted suit off the peg for those that have body styles to suit the suit so to speak, charles roderick don't do a bad number either. However I doubt any could match a little bespoke number, but that might be out the op's price range.

Another Hugo Boss reccomendation here, bought mine about 2 years ago (dont wear a suit for work) really nice fitting. was about £400 I think..

Likewise. Very good suits with a bit more style to them than some at this price point.

Choose carefully and you can get something classic with a nice twist.

Another thumbs up for Slaters. And they do have some decent labels there too - find one that you like that nearly fits and they'll do the alterations for you, job done.

I've been fortunate enough to have been out to Singapore with work and now get my suits made up by a tailor out there. You can't beat a made to measure suit....
