On the BBC news they are advertising that you can legally bribe MP's, who will change laws for you for as little as £25k.
Now, i am thinking that with the power of PH we could come up with much more than that a buy a really good MP or a few crap ones to do our bidding for us.
I wonder how much money it would have cost to stop the speed camera campaign from getting a hold. A couple of quid for each PH'er might have swung it..

No matter what the subject on PH (apart from toilet related threads maybe) there are equal numbers of "Yes we should" and "No we shouldn't" opinions, irrespective of the subject in hand

A good few years back, one member of my family was in the Cabinet and reached Foreign Secretary before stuffing up his career.
My Grandfather named his dog after him, just so he wouldn’t feel so bad if he ever had to whip his dog. Granddad always said Uncle Sir Samuel deserved whipping like a dog and I have to agree with him. Most politicians do, but he really deserved it.
Despite the dubious morality of such people, they can’t just be bought. They always have their eye on keeping their snout in the trough. If they are being asked to get the government to give up a very lucrative extortion racket like Scamera’s then it would cost an absolute fortune to buy them.
The advantage of stealth taxes like scamera’s is allowing election winning cuts in normal taxation as bribes to the electorate is too great. You have to be re-elected to keep your snout in.
The price they would ask to forgo a licence to print money like scamera's would be huge.

Nowadays, they're installed by the incumbent Government, to do the Governments bidding, and draw their money for doing so. Even if they get a bit uppity, the Government then uses the Parliament Act to steamroller their dross through.
Bring back peers that do their job because they want to, not just because some two-bit thicko pushes them sideways to do it.
