Do any of you have an idea of where I can get one of those tag things that mean you can whizz through the peage? I've got to drive around france at least twice this year, so it might be a worhtwhile investment.

Got mine from this lot. Might need some help for the translation but there is a phone number for overseas callers on the site and I'm sure they'll try and speak English.

Cost me 39.30 Euros for the doofer thing you stick on your windscreen then your tolls are billed straight to your c/card.

Ordered one at the weekend - seems to be 30 Euros deposit and then 2 Euros per month 'rental' until you give it back and then whatever Peage charges you incur, debited straight from your bank/credit card.

Although I'm not sure I've ever been charged the €2 / month fee.... I only get invoices as and when I use it so not sure if it just gets wrapped up in those, but the invoices aren't desperately clear.

Either way, they're worth it. Just drove to and from the Alps and didn't have to stop at the toll booths - just breezed straight through.

Follow the destructions though and mount it towards the top of your windscreen, as the sensors are on posts overhead and look down on the car. Didn't realise they were less effective when they were just left on top of the dash - thought I had a duff Le Doofer but the SANEF office in Reims confirmed it was fine.

I seem to remember being told there are 2 options, one has a monthly fee but lower rates, the other no fee but charges are higher - or something like that.

I ordered one a couple of weeks ago and it came through in 6 days which I was beyond expectations !

As I said up there ^^^^, I ordered mine at the weekend and it was delivered today.

Have also been told that the €2 charge is only applied in the month that you use it, so if you get one now and only use it for Le Mans, you just get the one charge.

That said, I will be able to confirm in April once I've been over there at the end of March

Correct. I've had mine a couple of years and they only charge the 2 euros for the months that its used

I make this point time and again for you lot. When you arrive at the péage the thing will give out a beep as it opens the barrier and again when you leave the autoroute. If it ceases to beep then the battery is running out and you need to pop into one of their offices alongside many péages and get a new one for free. If it does run out you are left there the wrong side of the barrier scratching your head. Look at the site to find a map of where their offices are along the way.

How long do the batteries normally last for on the basis that I've only used it for one trip to LM last year? Got the doofer thing last May.

I've had a télépéage transponder here for 8 years and I am on my 3rd. Normally you can count on three years before the batteries start to fail. It isn't the amount of usage, just the passing of time that runs them down.

How can you tell if said transponder jobbie has run down, BEFORE your sitting like Le citron at the pay gate

Let me be clear on this point - you can't! However, it'll stop beeping perhaps 6 months before the battery runs out and that will give you the warning. The first time I had no idea what was going on and ended up the wrong side of the péage, unmanned, at midnight in pouring rain. It had though stopped beeping ages before and it was only then I found out!

One more question lowdrag! I presume it's a radio transmitter? Only asking because I have a black sunstrip and would liked to have mounted it at the top of the windscreen (and therefore behind the sunstrip). Possible?

Also, it looks as though the little case it comes in makes it look like you have to mount it so that it it the back of the trasnponder that shows to the outside of the windscreen? Probably haven't explained myself very well but you will hiopefully know what I mean!

Yes, the back shows to the front of the car - ie: the sticky pad sticks on the inside of your windscreen.
