I can’t believe what I just heard on the radio! On R2 now, they’re running a discussion regarding the rights and wrongs of a school in Wales installing CCTV cameras in the children’s toilets!
WTF! – seriously, the UK needs to roll back this Big Brother attitude – you can get done if you have a bit of porn on your hard drive, but teachers can snoop at the kids in the toilet!

Another great example of poeple beliveing that further infirngment in poeples privacy is a step forward.
Would it not be better to address the problem in a more constructive way? People think that if a CCTV isnt on them, they can do what they want. What happened to people being educated to know whats right or wrong? FFS.

The new school building that my kids went into in September (one of these new super schools), has cctv all around the school, and has unisex toilets. We had reservations about it, until we went to see it, the actual cubicles run up either side, with floor to ceiling doors, (those bits aren't covered by cctv), but the hand wash area is a huge area in the middle, and very open (no doors to access the actual toilet area, and is covered by the cctv in the corrider.
Once we had seen it, and how it works, we were ok about it. In fact the way they designed the whole school works for me.

You only see the sinks etc, not the traps and urinals.
I know, and understand that they are faced towards the sinks, but are the positions fixed? I don't know, I just find it incredible that there is seemingly no end to the 'snooping society' - and has society got any better since their mass introduction (I guess some would argue that things would have been even worse now without them..)You only see the sinks etc, not the traps and urinals.
CCTV in children's toilets just seems so wrong - carers/teachers cannot even touch children now for fear of losing their jobs, but snooping on them in the toilet is just fine!

We had them in my primary school in the boys toilets. They were installed as soon as a new headmaster started (obviously gay), made me really not want to go to the toilet and even intentionly go to toilets miles away that weren't covered. There was a story in the local paper and that was as far as it got.
TBH, I do not see how else the vandals would be caught. Or if not caught, at least deterred.
They couldn’t have the policy a lot of the London clubs started and have a “toilet attendant” or some such person in the toilets at all time? So what else does it leave them?
I agree that the “punish the many for the crimes of the few” is a p@nts way of doing things but when you are on a budget, how else could this be handled?

The cameras do not cover the cubicles, (and as they are unisex toilets, then cubicles is all there is), it covers the sink area, and has stopped the amount of bullying, smoking, vanfalism etc within the toilet area. In fact I think having pretty much all the school covered by cctv has got rid of a lot of all this anyway (the little darlings do it all off the school premises instead!)t in private what??chris watton said:
