Some thoughts on the current economic situation.

You can hardly fail to notice that there’s a lot of right wing anger in this place and 6 months ago I would have agreed with every single bit of it, but since I joined university I’ve become a lot more politically active and now I find myself asking does the Brown bashing actually have any basis in fact? Everyone here seems to be falling over themselves in the rush to slate our Prime Minister Gordon Brown but do they actually have any viable alternatives and would they be courageous enough to actually implement them as Gordon Brown has? – I think not. It’s very easy to be a back seat driver as demonstrated by “Call me Dave” but when it comes to the effective implementation of REAL policy, men like David Cameron tend to fall disappointingly short.
In difficult times such as these it’s all too easy to blame those in authority for the woes of the world instead of actually standing up and accepting your share of the blame, and a strong leader like the Rt.Hon Mr Brown who can actually lead us through is derided because of his unfriendly demeanor. When our country is under threat, we need a proper LEADER who can make tough decisions that we may not like on behalf of us all such as Gordon Brown or Winston Churchill, not a friendly but semi-competent fellow like Tony Blair or Neville Chaimberlain. How many sheep can honestly stand up and say that they are best buddies with the nice fluffy sheepdog? None – yet if the sheepdog packed it all in like you lot are suggesting that Gordon Brown does, the sheep would be a whole lot worse off, wouldn’t they? Infact, much as the sheep hate the sheepdog, they need him. Sheep need to be herded, as do people and only individuals of rare quality such as Mr Brown are able to do the herding, especially under such difficult circumstances.
Gordon brown is often branded by his opponents and the people he serves alike as a political failure. This could not be further from the truth – Gordon Brown, unlike David Cameron is not TRYING to be a political success he is much too busy doing everything in his power to lead his people to safety. The phrase “U turn” is bandied about a lot by everyone without any proper consideration as to WHY our leader has changed his mind: TO GIVE US WHAT WE WANT when it is safe to do so. Not to make himself look better or further any third party cause but to make his people as happy as he can in these difficult economic times.
The problem is not of his own making, and yet only Gordon Brown has the balls to actually step forward and try and solve it. For this we should be applauding him, not deriding him. Every day, thousands of armchair experts are more than happy to offer their misinformed opinions on the Economy, but how many of them have actually ran anything bigger than a pick and mix stall? How many of them were Chancellor in the largest period of Economic growth for 100 years? Anyone???... How many of them would have had the courage to step up to the make and save the banks like Mr Brown did? Anyone???... How many of them could do all that AND successfully run the rest of the country at the same time as Gordon Brown has done?

The role Gordon has played in destroying the UK economy (had to think before i put economy there) is well reported in the national and global press, by leading reporters and economists.
His failings are well detailed in releases by the IMF and OECD.

There are many viable alternative measures to those which GB has implemented, although I would accept that a viable aternative Prime Minster is more about NOT electing GB again as opposed to actually plumping for Cameron for any positive reasons. I would accept that he hasn't stirred the nation's interest yet.RabD said:

No, he is derided because, like all left-wing leaders, he has delusions of grandeur. He believes he is solely in charge and we serve him, rather than the other way round. And he makes decisions that the country DOESN'T want. We don't want:- Money being sent OUT of our country for any reason, EU, Gaza, whatever...
- Our tax being wasted on more govt IT projects
- Any further reduction in our civil freedoms like satellite car tracking, paying AGAIN to drive our cars (city taxes, congestion or otherwise)
- Anything more to do with the totally fictitious belief that global warming has anything to do with the people scurrying about their business

So he gets your praise for controlling the global economy when everything was going right, but it's not his fault when it goes wrong?RabD said:

I would debate the word "success". I don't have a job at the moment. The first time in my life. That isn't a measure of success to me.RabD said:

Here's the thing.
History, basic O level economics, and Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat show that bust follows boom and boom follows bust, but instead of storing up the spare harvest in the 7 good years, they have pissed it up the wall, and now the grain store is well and truely empty.
They being:
The Governments of the Greedy Developed world and Especially the UK.
The Banks of the same.

Personally I didn't agree with most of his policies whilst he was in charge of the Treasury. The economic foundation he laid over many years was very unsound. He was rightly slated for it before the beginning of the whole credit crunch and without the benefit of hindsight.
The current credit crunch is ironically giving him the chance to do something and fool people into thinking he is 'saving us'.
It's a bit like building a house that will burn easily, then being a hero by rescuing people when it catches fire. Plenty of people will believe he is a hero, but people with experience will have pointed out that it's bloody stupid to build a house that burns easily.
