The TV News & Daily Papers tell us that there is a crisis and everybody is on the dole or about to be.
But I'm seeing a different side.
I want to buy my wife a car, but I'm really struggling to find at £5,000 Japanese hatchback.
Every car we've seen advertised is sold by the time I ring. The last one we found was priced at £500 over Glasses Guide retail price at Colliers Mazda. They wouldn't accept an offer for cash apart from giving me 6 months tax. That was last week, today the car is showing on the web as Sold..
I went to the auction, very few cars unsold. All sold cars fetching book prices or close. I notice that at Colchester Auctions this week, a 2006 Range Rover sold for £1000 OVER book price, and a 2005 Mini 1 sold for £1000 UNDER book price.
In every showroom I've been into in the past 2 weeks I've noticed a 'punter' being signed up. In some showrooms I wasn't attended to because there were no sales staff to help, all were busy.
A pal with a Vauxhall outlet has posted his 2nd best December of all time and he's struggling to buy new stock. He says that even 4 x 4's are selling.
I also want a new camera as my old one is broken, I've decided on the newly announced Panasonic Lumix LX3 but everywhere is Sold Out. There are none available anywhere in the country and I cannot get a delivery date.
I went to the Ford Dunlop shopping centre on Saturday. I didn't stay because there were no parking spaces available, all full. So I went to Asda in Minworth, same thing, car park full.
On my way home, I counted houses For Sale & Sold - 50% Sold / 50% Unsold.
