New suit for £400

I am best man at a wedding in June and also am attending the wedding of another friend later in the year. I need a new suit, and as I don't wear suits normally I'd like something special(ish), however only have a budget of £400.

What are the chances of getting a suit tailor-made for this price, and any ideas on where to go? Preferably in the Leeds/Manchester/Birmingham areas rather than London.

Or at this price would I get a better quality from off the peg.

I understand the PS shop in Bank (London) is a designated sale shop so get yourself down there!!

It does depend on the cut you like but you can't go wrong with PS.

You are unlikely to get a fully tailor made suit for that figure, or at least one which is as good as you'd hope.

Unless you are a very odd size I'd spend the money on a good off the peg suit and have it adjusted to fit.

For £400 there are some very nice suits out there.

Slaters! There is one round Leeds, just do a google. They'll take an off the shelf suit that you like (branded at that price) and alter it to fit you better.

I'll try Slater's, do you know of any other good tailors in the Leeds/Manchester area who could tailor an off the peg suit to fit. Just in case I don't fancy any of the suits in Slaters?

Not sure if you have an outlet shopping centre near you, but I have had a few good suits from Bicester Village (just north of Oxford) for that sort of money. Gieves & Hawkes, Brooks Brothers, Hugo Boss, Savoy Taylor's Guild etc etc...

I've always found the problem with Paul Smith\Ted Baker type suits is that you can't get any extra trousers, and I always like to a get at least one if not two spare pairs when buying a decent suit, as the jacket part is envitably worn for about 1/10 of the time as the trousers.

Haven't used their stuff - heard mixed reviews about them (on this forum somewhere, do a search). I've been fortunate enough to have my measurements taken in Singapore by a recommended tailor, so I get tailor made suits in decent cloth made up and shipped here for £200, depending on the material and any other fancy alterations I put in. But before I did this, I always used Slaters or some of the Amsterdam designer shops (2/3 the cost of over here) and then got them altered to fit. The selection in Slaters (Glasgow) is so massive that I'd be surprised if you didn't find something that you like; provided you're not excessively tiny or large, they can alter it.

That's exactly what I do. I take them to a cracking tailor I know in Newcastle. Very smart suits made to fit extremely well.

Reiss suit and the instore tailor will sort it out to fit for circa £400 or at least the one on regent st did for me last time i visited.

Slaters (there's one in Manchester, think it's Dale St.) have a massive selection as previously mentioned.

The Glasgow shop was the largest menswear outlet in Europe at one time. (May still be?)

The ex-manager of the Manchester store is a mate, so possibly bias?

C Armani tailors (no relation, just an anagram of her name! she's called liza marican). They're in Lucky Plaza on Orchard Road. [e-mail] or [phone].

One of my mates is an ex jermaine st tailor (joined the mob for more excitement) and is our guide on all things sartorial. He recommended them to me and also checked out my threads and was v impressed.

cheers mate, sadly (or not as its another recomendation) I already get my whistles knocked up there! She seems to get a lot of recomendations (for tailoring, stop sniggering at the back) from people out here!

FWIW to others, top recomendation if out this way.
