My S3 seems to be drinking more than expected. Maximum I can get out of a tank (driving very conservatively)is 400 miles. Is that about right?

LOL thats loads my 2.6 V6 cabriolet only got me about 340 miles and my S Line 1.8 has said 420 miles to me but obviously this will go down dependant on your foot and how hard you push

Sounds spot on to me. Did you used to be able to get a lot more?

That's not right, it should be about 300-350!

Whichever model it is (old or new) that is good mpg, it drops easily into low 20s when pushed so be happy.

Ive been running my S3 for about 10k miles now and i wouldnt be moaning if i got 400 miles per tank, thats pretty good.

I keep track of my mileage and fuel recepts (mainly so i can claim bits back as expenses biggrin).

I get about 28-30mpg running on super unleaded and thats about 340miles from full to between quarter tank and the red, and about 24-25 on regular and thats about 280-290 miles to a tank, it only gets regular when there is no super left in the pumps.

If i cruise on the motorway then it goes upto about 33/34mpg and i might be able to get 400miles but if i open the tapes on a fast set of back roads or track then it goes down to <20mpg and i wouldnt want to count the miles.

Spec:
1999 S3
Custom Remap
APR 4pot Brakes
Full Miltek with high flow cats
18" Audi RS4's
More stuff thats too boring to list tongue out

Ok, my first post, but I've been lurking for ages on here.

Anyhow - what's the point of having an S3 and complaining about 400+ miles to a tank??!! [scratches head). Sounds like it's never been above 4k revs.

I'm lucky if I get 20 mpg ~ 270 miles to a tank in an S2. 300 miles to a tank on a motorway run.

I reckon you should trade it for a 1.9TDi. ;-)

my old standard 99 S3 used to get average of 27mpg. i rarely saw 400 miles to a tank unless i drove like a plank!
