Race seats & harness help

Hi

Thinking of changing the seats in my Tamora to race seats with a 4 point harness but am still wanting to retain the ability to slide the seats back and forwards.

Does anyone have any advice or experience on where I can buy the seats and subframes and which sort will fit the Tamora. e.g. Cobra, Recaro, Corbeau, Sparco etc. etc.

A few of us have Cobra Imola's fitted in T350's. Tried many but these were only ones that would squeeze in - after Cobra had modified the inner corners quite a bit to clear the transmissio tunnel. You will need a harness bar behind as well of course. But I had to give up on retaining the sliding rails, as it would have given about 1" movement at best - there just isn't the space.

Did you have a harness bar made or buy one of varleyhd's as I am considering one myself?

We facbricated a tricky heavy-duty arrangement for motorsport use, that most people would consider rather OTT, so if Graham has a bolt-in one available I'd go for it.

I wasn't aware that Graham was selling the harness bars, but I could be wrong. I dropped him an email via his Sagaris Pages site and he was kind enough to send me the spec of the steel tubing he used to make it - should be simple to make up yourself or get a local metal fabricator to do it for you.

Graham went on to explain that the holes in the rollcage are already tapped all the way through, but they'll be rusted up, so best run a tap through them to clean them out. Looking at my Tuscan, the holes aren't aligned perfectly front-back, rather their axis points inwards slightly toward the front of the car.

My intention was to measure the position of the exits of the holes on the back of the rollcage (opposite side to the seats), and have a 38mm dia tube cut to appropriate length. The holes in the tube would be drilled slightly offset front and rear to account for the angle of the mounting bolts, then the whole thing would be bolted in place with 2x7/16" UNF bolts.

On the Tuscan seats, the bottom harness mounts can be sandwiched inside the existing seatbelt mounts, attached to the base of the seat. There's enough room on the outside mounting to use a normal harness eye bolt though, if you prefer - Demon Tweeks sell extra long versions which will go through the seatbelt as well, keeping everying e marked and road legal for MOT time. Not to mention for Tesco carpark - I got funny looks using 4 point harnesses in my old Griff when pootling to the shops

Note that all this is at your own risk. I can't comment on the road legality or safety of the installation, which is one of the reasons I'm still also contemplating having someone like Rollcentre make up a bar for me.
