Because some of them look very nice indeed, especially the Seiko Arctura watches. Any knowledgable people care to comment?

I've had a seiko kinetic for four or five years now - never let me down at all...

Very hardy watches, best one I've had so far tbh!

Seiko's are probably the best value for money watches out there. End of story

Seiko are extremly good watches and great value for money.

pulsar are made by seiko, so quality too.

I have a few seiko's in my collection, very cool watches.

ive got a pulsar some where and it is seriously heavy! So much so that i do not wear it anymore. I would recommend a seiko over a pulsar. Another reason why i do not wear the pulsar is that mine had very soft plastic on the display and consequently it has suffered so many scratches that i cannot tell the time anymore.

Polywatch is your friend.

Or, believe it or not, toothpaste. Apply a little, and polish with great pressure.

No question, they are good watches and just because they are made in huge quantities doesnt detract from that. Ive got quite a few "decent" watches, Rolexs and the like but my daily wearer at the moment is a Seiko Arctura Kinetic from around 1997 that I recently bought from Ebay, then had the glass changes and the movement serviced/capacitor replaced all for around £150 including the watch. In fact i like it so much I then bought a Titanium version for a lot more money for special occasions.

Thanks, Commander, looks like a job for the weekend....;)

they are top watches - Seiko make all their components (even the lubricating oils) in house, and they are tough as old boots.

Considering they are in nearly every price range (from £50 to £5,000+) they really show an attention to detail and quality.

The japanese market ones tend to be even nicer - for example, at £300, this is LOVELY.

even if it is a...ummm....homage to a Speedy wink

No complaints here. I've had my Seiko Military for 15 years and it's been perfect. Tough as well.

What's the one on the left?

Re: the OP - Seiko, as a company, invented the quartz movement that we all know and not all of us love - and with it, arguably contributed more to obtainable watch engineering than any other company of recent times.

Its quartz - I think all of the Power Design range (an annual internal Seiko design competition of which they sell the winners) are quartz to keep the price affordable on these limited-run models.

There is a similar looking 34 jewel auto chrono in the JDM Brightz range, but its nearly two grand!

Don't worry, as long as you don't want a chronograph, there are heaps of Seiko autos from £2000 down to £35.

Yeah the seiko kinetic watches are great, good power reserve on them ( unlike my automatic diver! )
Normally around £150+ rrp for the kinetic's though, but they are good

As for the OP, I think it's already been mentioned that Pulsar are made by Seiko, both great watches and would recommend. Never seemed to notice any problems with either make - should last years

If the Japanese market Seikos are different, better, is there anywhere to buy them over here (other than ebay)?

Seiya Japan is an option, I suppose.
