Driven mad by British Telecom
Discussion
BT are quite literally driving me crazy. A nervous tic is starting and I am displaying erratic behaviour.
Never before in the field of customer services has so little been offered for such an extra premium over how much you can pay elsewhere.
I am unfortunate enough to be in contract for another six months. In the meantime, it seems that the service is :
- Way more expensive than any of my friends and neighbours.
- Offering Broadband so slow erratic and inconsistent in speed, I thought for a moment by iMac had morphed into a Sinclair Spectrum. Even a Youtube clip takes several minutes to download. 8mb speed my Arse.
So I have decided to do that un-British thing and complain.
Right at this very moment of typing, I am on the phone to BT having called the number you ring having found a number under the heading of "thinking of leaving BT, please call this number to discuss your options ".
The ugly irony of all this is that I have been on hold now for 30 minutes ! I guess that is because of the sheer number of people trying to leave BT !
My God ! I loathe BT on a scale that almost scares me .
If anyone wants to come on here and defend them , please do. I fancy a fight....

I can fully appreciate how you feel, without going into the full saga, I cancelled a service with BT about six months ago, have letters telling me my account is zero, nothing to pay etc etc. I still keep getting bills with random amounts on, keep having to ring up, keep getting apologised to, then letters from debt agencies arrive and the whole saga starts again!!!!!
I must be up to about 35 calls, am seriously debating asking my solicitor if I can sue them for harresment!
They are by far the worst company it has ever been my misfortune to have to deal with!!

THATS IT !
T o quote a well worn PH phrase, but in this case justified, my piss is truly boiling !
Having been kept on hold and lost 40 minutes of my life without a response, the moment the clock hit 10pm , they cut me off with a message saying that their "customer service line " ( Hah ! ) is now closed !!!!
WTF !!! ARGHHHHHHH !

Why dont you just call them early tomorrow??
Even if you did get through tonight, you'd only end up with a tired-having-worked-12-hours call-centre monkey about to knock off who couldnt give a flying feck about your broadband...
Play smart.....
ahhh well if you knew how to play smart you wouldnt have gone with BT in the first place would you

I'm not with BT broadband but am still at the mercy of their s
tty network that delivers a whopping 0.5MB connection MAX.
Sympathies
Same here, I've just managed a whole 719kb/s on one speed test, and 695 on another.

The town 3 miles away gets 4MB, at least it did when we rented a house there for a while, it might have been upgraded again.
BT were such utter rubbish I ended up in email conversation with their CEO at the time - he had to apologise that he couldn't get the company he was CEO of to get minor things right.
If you feel the need to contact the new CEO - http://www.connectotel.com/marcus/ceoemail.html his email is on here - he's an ex finance gimp so he may not reply, but worth a go if you've had enough of their idiocy. They might direct you to the 'chairman's office' to solve the problem

As soon as other phone and broadband options are available in my area, i am leaving BT. Recently it took me over 3 months just to set up direct debit, then they attempted to fine me for a late payment when it waas their fault and i got them to state that they would make a note on my account and not charge me! Worst customer services ever!
On top of all this, they have just increased their line rental price by £1 per month, trying to disguise this fact by hiding it in the lenghty text of a letter telling me all about the other benefits they offer their customers but which i already have or will never use! Please Tiscali or Virgin, hurry up and cover my area!

they are so hopeless they had me down as having 9 months remaining on my broadband contract with them (when I wanted to close an account to move house) - my broadband is with a another supplier. I ended up having a 20 minute circular argument where the guy was telling me I owed them £180 for the remaining months - I told him to tell me what account the payments for the broadband was coming from, because it wasn't any of mine (of course he couldn't, data protection etc.).
Anyway eventually (somehow) got through to a guy in India who said he would cancel the broadband. They also generously refunded me £180 on my final bill and sent me a cheque for £130! (which they did not owe me).
god knows how this happened.

you dont have to have BT as the supplier. Zen will supply if you have a BT line, they run a monthly service, so only 4 weeks to cancel if you want to.
